Polyp on cervix

Recently told at routine smear test I have a polyp on my cervix.
I have to return to see the GP who will decide what needs done.
I have been having some pelvic pain and spotting which I am now thinking might have been caused by this.
Has anyone any experience?
The thought of having it removed is frankly terrifying me as I am an absolute wuss.

I had seven. Got them taken off last summer. To be honest it wasn't much different to the actual smear, no biggie. More of a PITA was having to drive for an hour and a half on the hottest day of last summer in my shitty, slow car with no air con to get to the clinic.

I have got one and it's been there for at least 25 years.

Thanks marvellous
Can I ask
Did yours cause any symptoms?

...my GP made a half-hearted attempt to remove it when I was having a coil fitted, but she couldn't get it and gave up.

No symptoms, just a gasp followed by an 'er, don't worry...' from the nurse doing my smear.

I've had them. I was having spotting for years, on the final year I was more on than off, kept a diary which I took to the gp.
I had a smear with a rubbish gp which came back as needing repeating. Found out this is due to polyps.
Refered to gynae at the hospital. They tried to remove them, but couldn't. Had an op to have them removed, completely painless as far as I remember. Day surgery, so in and out in the same day. The dr came and told me it went well, and they were the largest she had ever seen, and no wonder gynae couldn't remove them.
Touch wood not had an issue since, and wish I had the spotting looked at sooner.
I am also a huge wuss, but its really not a big deal. It will make life much easier.

I had a few uterine polyps removes under a general several years ago. Also a massive wuss but it really was the biggest non event! Was eating a pizza and drinking a glass of wine at home by the evening. You'll be fine OP.

Oh - my consultant also told me that sometimes they just fall off when they put the TVS probe thingy in (if you're going to have that kind of scan- not sure it's the same for cervical ones) as it just knocks them off. No such luck for me but quite common apparently.

Thanks all...
You are all very reassuring .
I shall try and forget about it until my appointment which is a month away.

I had one removed a few years ago, I felt it but it was no worse than a smear, the gynaecologist commented that he didn't know why I'd been referred just for a polyp.

Unless it has a wide base, the Dr will just hold them with polyp forceps and twist them until they fall off. If it has a wide 'stalk', they may use cautery to remove it.

Thanks all
