Inspired by the 'train your baby like a dog' programme,

My DC (19 and 23) are reliably trained to-
Cook a dinner when told what to make.
Do their own laundry.
Use ice and refill the ice trays.
Walk and feed the dog.
Bake cakes
Patiently teach (and reteach ad infinitum) their grandparents to use tech.
Clean their own bathroom (badly) and their own bedrooms (well).

How about yours?

DD is 18 and capable to run her own household.
DS is younger - can cook his three favourite meals, basic cleaning and do the laundry but still needs a shopping list written for him (He's got ASD so everything creates anxiety at the moment - work in progress).

gotmychocolateimgood · 18/08/2019 18:09

9yoDD can make toast for herself and DS. She feeds the cat and rabbits.
Soon she will be able to walk DS to school at which point I shall dance a merry dance Grin

Clear up after meals, wash dishes and put away
Bin day
Empty all their crap out of the car when we get home (requires a little 'reminding')
Laundry, kind of. They sort, bring it down and put it away when it's dry. Need to work on the washing machine bit
Changing beds Every Saturday without being reminded.
DTs are 15
Not so great on cooking but then neither am I.

How to do train someone to share biscuits @RedLipsAndRosyCheeks, it not the odd sort of behaviour I could demonstrate. The biscuits are all mine.

My youngest can very reliable wake up when we arrive somewhere, he's also pretty amazing at using all the towels. Despite this, he is a lovely young man.

picklemepopcorn · 18/08/2019 18:20

Bibbity definitely make the most of that! Some unkind swine trains them out of it at some point!

I get a little lift just under my heart when I see them noticing what is needed, and just getting on with it. They both empty bins/recycling as well, though usually later than I'd ideally like .

I'm so impressed with mine, talking to slightly awkward elderly relatives. I have a lot of those!

I carried a biscuit home from church to give DH. I didn't even lick it.

MiniSJT is for

If I whistle he knows to come over to wherever I am, the cat responds too. Very handy at places like softplay.

He gets in my bed most nights, he knows before he gets in he needs to straighten the duvet if my feet are sticking out.

He can put his own clothes away if they are in individual piles.

He puts his dirty clothes in the washing basket.

He can wipe his own bum without using half a toilet roll and squirting water everywhere.

He knows the alphabet so with mimimal help he can choose shows on netflix and nowtv.

He can tell the time and repeatedly tell me how late I am every morning.

18mo can reliably make enough mess to make the house look like it’s been turned upside down.
7yo tidies her own food/plate away. Quite good with a handheld Hoover. If I need a quick shower or the loo she’s good at entertaining 18mo old enough so he doesn’t break anything in those 5mins. Shes very nice to her brother even when he’s not nice back. She’s also very good at looking after her things and never breaks or ruins anything!
They are both very good in restaurants and don’t require screens to do so but I think that was luck with the eldest and the youngest copies her.

NavyBlueHue · 18/08/2019 18:29

13 yo is excellent at running into the corner shop while I wait in the car.
She’s also very competent at telling me what I should order in Starbucks/Nero/Costa etc. She can also make her own mean iced coffee.
She’s a dab hand at telling me what colours suit me and I’ve trained her to do a little happy sigh in book shops whilst being happy to spend ages in there.

We’re still working on getting her to leave Primani in under 2 hours but you can’t win ‘em all.
Grin

IncrediblySadToo · 18/08/2019 18:30

SJT how old is he now? Impressive if he’s 5, not quite so much if he’s 29!🤣

NavyBlueHue · 18/08/2019 18:32

Ooooo forgot most important. She catches spiders and releases them outside for me. Winning! Grin

SimonJT · 18/08/2019 18:35

@IncrediblySadToo He’s four, I hadn’t noticed my typo at the start. He can also call pigeons “dirty fucking pigeons”, wonder where he learned that...

AguerosAngel · 18/08/2019 18:37

DS12(nearly 13) does the BEST poached eggs, gives great back massages and is superb at putting his laundry away too!

Bourbonbiccy · 18/08/2019 20:02

My 2 year old, could be a litter monitor and will tell each and every person "No, bin" if they drop anything on the floors. ( litter shaming my friend call it)

Wipes his own bum on the toilet or finds the wipes and gives them to me after his poo if it's in the potty in the house. ( He finds them and then reverses at me shouting "poo bum, mummy" )

Can seek a well hidden set of keys out.... Literally anywhere as I hate him having them, so any opportunity he can find them

Lifts anything up off the floor onto the sofa when I get the Hoover out.

Undress and dress himself ( except putting his socks and shoes on). Undressing is literally as soon as we walk in the house, he just gets naked as soon as the door closes !!!

RedLipsAndRosyCheeks · 18/08/2019 21:39

@Disfordarkchocolate it's an innate ability that he certainly hasn't learnt from me but I continue to foster
