Do I want a bamboo duvet?

Only ever had cheapest Ikea duvets, currently use a 4.5 tog. Looking for a hypoallergenic duvet that feels soft and luxurious. Going to treat ourselves to some nice linen sheets if I can work out which ones, so want a nice duvet inside to match.
How much should you spend on a luxury duvet, I’ve no idea past Ikea basic price point ones. Do we spend £70 on a man made one, or £140 on a bamboo one? Any suggestions gratefully received. In winter we’d probably maybe go up to 10.5 tog but not more.

Hmm, we have bamboo sheets and they are comfortable I have to admit

Just as long as you don't have any dreams about being a hungry panda and wake to find it gone Grin

We bought a silk duvet a few years ago and would highly recommend that. They're not massively expensive and you get the same warmth for a much lighter load on you. That means that they're also much easier to pack if travelling somewhere you need to take bedding, or to keep spares in the cupboard.

Highest count cotton sheets you can afford.

Any suggestions for the silk duvet or sheets?

Soak and Sleep for silk duvets.

Good bedlinen too.

I use the summer weight one all year round.

wigglybeezer · 21/08/2019 22:01

I have a wool duvet which I love but it does have a slight sheepy whiff!

CherryPlum · 21/08/2019 22:15

It comes down to personal preference and a bit of trial and error. Do you want a natural filling such as down & feather, or synthetic, i.e. microfibre or hollowfibre? There are pros and cons to both.

picklemepopcorn · 21/08/2019 22:33

Definitely go for wool, silk or bamboo if you can. They last far better than a synthetic hollowfibre one.

Well worth considering two single duvets for a double bed, by the way. It's been a sleeping revolution for DH and Me!

Wool wool wool all the way. It breathes and temperature regulates.

I recently bought NuSleep 37.5 technology sheets. They are a revelation! They wick away moisture and stay cool. Expensive (very expensive) but I am a maven collector of bedding so trust me they are great. [https://nusleepbedding.com/]

Summer weight wool duvet, linen duvet cover and NuSleep sheets is THE luxury sleep combo of combos IMO

SherlocksDeerstalker · 22/08/2019 04:33

I can thoroughly recommend the marks and Spencer’s bamboo sheets (comfortably cool cotton and tencell it’s called) and their allergenic bamboo duvets. I bought a set of each for my daughter with skin allergies, and have since replaced every bed in the house with them. The sheets have a silky smooth feel so are more ‘slippery’ than cotton incase that’s not your thing. But I absolutely love them. They are so light and cool.

TreeSunset · 23/08/2019 21:13

Thanks for all the replies, can’t do a wool duvet due to allergy, but bamboo/silk is fine, doesn’t have to be synthetic. Will have a look into the sheets and duvets linked thanks

Have bamboo socks and love them.
I wish I could afford a bamboo duvet.

Azeema · 25/08/2019 22:06

Bamboo not luxury. Do not pay a fortune.

CokeZeroHero · 25/08/2019 22:14

I have a silk one from John Lewis. It's lovely

Nothingcomesforfree · 25/08/2019 22:21

Not a fan of bamboo. Feels hot fake and slippery l

I like feathers. My mum made my feather pillows in the 60’s and still going strong at mine. Although to be fair people describe them as sand bags.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 25/08/2019 22:28

I also have the M&S comfortably cool bedding- unbelievably soft and somehow manages to avoid wrinkles altogether, so always looks v tidy even though I’m a slattern who doesn’t iron.

I also have the M&S Supremely Soft summer duvet and its lovely as well.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/08/2019 11:24

Has your new bedding arrived @TreeSunset? What do you think of it?

TreeSunset · 28/08/2019 11:41

Sheets have but need to be washed first, duvet hasn’t arrived yet. Want to grand unveil them together!
