What do you do with your crawling but non-walking baby?

Baby is 14 months but still doesn’t walk.

Doesn’t want to be in her buggy for long as wants to crawl all the time.

So long buggy walks are now out, as is browsing shops with her in buggy. She used to love being out & about in buggy.

Trips for lunch / coffee have to be super quick as she’ll only stay in high chair for short time before having a meltdown.

If weather good we’ve been letting her crawl round the garden & she has sandpit, ride on toys etc.

What do you do with a crawling but non-walking baby? Especially on rainy days.

Is it just me or is this phase really hard?’

Just to add she gets bored in the house very quickly & has a meltdown if we stay home too long, despite us having a big house with loads of stuff for her to do, look at.

My DS didn't walk to 15 months, we did:
Soft play
Playgroups at childrens centres
Play dates at others houses
Any chance you live near a beach?
Swimming
Trips to the park for the swing

Soft play. Park wearing sacrificial clothes. Baby carrier: mine preferred being higher up. It’s an annoying phase but will pass

My daughter ( now all grown up and active ) didn't walk until 23 months.
She was quite happy to crawl and bum shuffle but one day just got up and was off.

Really hard. I associate this period of lack of contentment and restlessness with learning to walk any day now and it eases up. That's the only good thing.

Thanks
We do swimming already but that’s max 30 minutes before DD wants to get out.

No beach here.

Soft play here goes up to age 10 and is packed so too dangerous for a little tot. No separate toddler area.

I don’t have any friends or know anyone locally so DD has never had a play date in her life. Makes me very sad but that’s a whole other thread. I spent a whole year on mat leave attempting to make friends so I did try Sad

No playgroups open at weekends (I work during the week)

Park in an all in one waterproof - they go really fast down wet slides!
Soft play
Staying at home doing everything possible to teach them to walk!

trilbydoll · 18/08/2019 12:15

If you get to soft play for opening time it's usually quiet enough for littlies for an hour or so before big kids get there!

DS is coming up to 14 months and also crawling + pulling himself up. I find he quite enjoys going round the house and climbing up the stairs.

I think the idea of an all in one waterproof sounds fab. I might try it myself as the garden has been pretty wet.

If I go shopping, I let him crawl in the nicer/cleaner/less busy shops and then give him a good wipe. We also have cafes and pubs with little play areas so that’s a good spot to go out.
