What do for an ironing board?

We live in a two bed flat with three children. We don’t have a great deal of space 😬 I hardly ever iron but sometimes have a need for the ability to iron - in the winter, doing loads of washing and tumble drying, some items could do with a once over.

But I just cannot be doing with a tall ironing board shoved in the back of a cupboard and inevitably falling out every time like a bastard (as all other ironing boards have seemed to do). They just seem so big and unwieldy. I need like a little half size table top style ironing board. Is there such a thing?

Yes lakeland do them.
Thinking of getting one myself

I got one in the range for less than £10, I'm pretty sure I've seen them in b&m as well.

I have this one from IKEA www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/jaell-ironingboard-table-20242890/ but I think places like Asda and Amazon sell them too. I use it for quick items rather than get our big (heavy) one out.

Towel on floor

Yes, I have a mini one from aldi.
I will say that it's a total pain to use, as there's not really enough room to stretch the clothes out over it so i end up wrestling with it all.

Two other things to consider- you could get an over door ironing board hangar like this, if you have room on the back of a hallway cupboard door or other door

Or how about a handheld steamer instead of an iron? Then you can just steam the clothes while hung up. (I'm going to get one of these next!)

The small table top ironing boards aren't very strong, they collapse if you lean on them too hard. My (full size) ironing board is on a hook on the inside of a cupboard door.

Get an ironing pad. Barely takes up any space.

Yes I have a mini one from IKEA. Hangs on a little hook and I pop it on the breakfast bar in seconds. I hate the big ironing board, it hates me too as it always nips my fingers or smashes into my shins.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 18/08/2019 10:24

You don't need a fancy over the door hanger for an ironing board. I hang mine on some coat pegs that are in my under-stairs cupboard.

Pipandmum · 18/08/2019 10:28

I actually do have an ironing board now as my son likes to iron his clothes but before that I’d put a towel on a flat surface for the very rare times I did it.

PickingUpLicks · 18/08/2019 10:34

I have a table-top one from Argos. My mum just folds a sheet up and uses that on her dining table.

Scoleah · 18/08/2019 10:55

You can get "over the door" ironing boards, I've been meaning to get one for ages, but making do with my ironing mat at the moment!

Mini table top one from Amazon-same as the IKEA one, as I had that one previously.

I threw our ironing board away when the kittens destroyed the cover by using it as a climbing frame as I figured on the rare occasion either of felt the need to iron, a towel on the kitchen island would do the job. I think that has happened once in about 3 years.
