A-level results day
GCSE results day.

That’s it.

helloisitmeyourelookingfor · 18/08/2019 10:50

5 days

I'm moving classrooms and have a lot of resources to move and find new homes for

My storage has been cut by a third so I've had to be quite creative

CuckooCuckooClock · 18/08/2019 11:02

None. I’m busy with my family all summer.
It’s going to be really fucking stressful the first day back - full teaching day in a new school - but with no childcare I have no choice.

hooraysuperworm · 18/08/2019 11:07

Did three full days at the start to move classrooms, which was a challenge with an 8 month old. Thankfully some TAs came in and helped. I’ve luckily been able to do most planning/SL stuff in the evenings when she’s in bed so that’s been a blessing, and I think just a couple more days to back displays/clean and label trays/arrange tables etc.

Takes me longer than usual atm due to DD wanting to move but being unable, and so complaining loudly about being plonked on a blanket in the middle of the classroom floor with some toys. CBeebies on the IWB has been my friend this summer 😩

Cherrysoup · 18/08/2019 11:11

This will definitely turn into a teacher-bashing thread. MN hates teachers, especially teachers on their summer break.

I think that's an unnecessarily provocative comment and also untrue. I see plenty of support for teachers on here, except when they complain about how stressful their job is. I mean, yes, it is, but so is working in plenty of other jobs.

mistressiggi · 18/08/2019 11:14

....and so it begins Smile

MaryBerriesNiece · 18/08/2019 11:21

4 days which was my own choice. I have a new child starting in my class after the summer break with complex needs and I wanted to make the transition as smooth as possible for them.

theluckiest · 18/08/2019 11:41

Zero. But I'm not moving classrooms this year.

My fabulous TA has sorted name labels for everything so I would only be going in out of guilt that I should be going in IYSWIM.

Might meet up with my year group partner for a few hours to plan the first week as she's new to this year group but that will probably finish up with chats & wine...GrinWine

Cherry soup our job is stressful. We are entitled to feel that way if that’s how we feel. Frankly I don’t give a 💩 if you or anyone else has a problem with that.

MmmBlowholes · 18/08/2019 18:39

Cherrysoup how hypocritical 😂

PhysaliaPhysalis · 18/08/2019 18:41

Three so far, likely 5 in total.

It needs reorganising and old bits of paperwork shredding.
Displays backing, books and trays etc labelling.
Resources etc organising.
I find it easier to do planning at school rather than at home to be honest. Fewer distractions!

Then I can hit the ground running in September.

No longer a teacher, but I used to love the peace and quiet of a couple of quiet days in my classroom sorting everything out, putting up initial displays and labelling. I have never lost the feeling of September being a fresh start and a time to plan and look ahead, whatever I’ve been doing in my life. Hope all our teachers and children have a good school year and have had a restful and restorative summer

inwood · 18/08/2019 19:01

DH is a teacher and goes in on results day, that's all.

cliffdiver · 18/08/2019 19:03

Zero, and I'm not planning to.

SheilaHammond · 18/08/2019 19:15

Primary HT. Been in for one day. Did one day at home. Will do same in last week of holiday. Check emails daily though and I'm on-call for builders and my staff if they need me.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/08/2019 14:10

I asked my HT when school would be open for staff to come in.

He said that he might let us know its open for a day towards the end of the holiday but that he was strongly discouraging anyone from going in.

FourEyesGood · 19/08/2019 14:18

I went in for A-level results day last week and will go in again for GCSE results on Thursday. I need to sort my classroom out and organise a few resources, so if I don’t manage that on Thursday, I’ll go in again, maybe on Friday. I take my DCs with me and they play (usually on screens - feel free to judge!) while I work.
