I've just cried over the fucking laundry

It's rained all week. On top of that, I can't put my washing out during the week because I have to leave at stupid o'clock for my work commute. Got up today to see blazing sunshine. Checked weather app, no rain scheduled. Thank god! Put two loads of washing out and left for the day. Come home to find it had rained, washing soaked. Took it in. Sun came back out. Put it back out. Rained an hour later. Washing soaked once more. No way of drying it indoors without putting the heating on and it's bloody 18 degrees today.

All my work stuff for next week is soaking. And now I'm crying because I'm so sick of this constant battle with the washing. I'm close to just taking the whole lot to the fucking laundrette.

Anyone else have this much trouble with the washing or am I just crap at life? Because I feel crap at life.

Get the heated Lakeland thing. I have one. I can fit 2 loads of washing on it and in the summer it dries overnight.

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/08/2019 19:18

The Lakeland one is awesome. I bought one for my parents and it has changed their lives Grin

Banjodancer · 17/08/2019 19:19

I had a heated airier from Lakeland and sold it and bought a tumble dryer. I had no room for a tumble dryer, it had to sit sticking out into the kitchen, but it was a game changer for me. A condenser one doesn't need plumbed in at all and could go anywhere you can squeeze it in - bedroom?

partysong · 17/08/2019 19:20

Laundrette, honestly - do it. Even better if you can afford a service wash (the fold it nicely for you too)

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/08/2019 19:25

A spin dryer is good, things dry quicker on the racks, really good for towels.

Or a dri buddy.

statetrooperstacey · 17/08/2019 19:42

Hang it up in the house and use a dehumidifier.

TreacherousPissFlap · 17/08/2019 19:42

We have one of those pulley jobs that hangs over the stairs. I was very sceptical at first but am a total convert now.
We've been going to buy a tumble dryer since we moved in but the pulley thing is so good we've managed to put it off for almost six years now Grin

Coconut0il · 17/08/2019 20:17

My house sometimes looks like a laundrette with weather like this, if it can't be tumble dried I put clothes on hangers and hang them from the curtain poles on the two front windows.

BertieBotts · 17/08/2019 20:23

Get a tower airer. Argos do one or Ikea. I don't think you necessarily need it to be heated, IME the space of the tower one is game changing enough as you can fit a couple of loads on one and nothing hangs over each other, unlike one of those pointless stacked X designs or the three panel gate ones. In summer I find stuff dries on those overnight, in winter it takes a couple of days but it's still much better than trying to predict the great British weather. It takes up the footprint of one of the shitty airers and half of that if you get the one you can close one side at a time. I would never have anything else now.

cookiechomper · 17/08/2019 20:27

Take it the launderette this time and buy a drier. I couldn't cope without mine. There's 6 of us in this house, I'd never have anything dry if I only had the line to rely on.

Mygaff · 17/08/2019 20:30

Heated Airer from Lakeland.

I put a wash on before bed, spin it again, hang it all up & its dry by the morning (including jeans) Its.around 4p an hour.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 17/08/2019 20:32

OP do you have an cupboard/airing cupboard or very small room you could use to dry laundry? If so get an airer or two up in it and buy a dehumidifier and put it in the room/cupboard and close the door. Even a bathroom will work if you can get the lead for the dehumidifier under the door. Make sure the window is closed when drying.

Failing that tumble drier in landing/bedroom/dining room?

Mmmmdanone · 17/08/2019 20:50

How do you manage in the winter? I have 3 clothes airers in my bedroom- gate style ones placed parallel to eachother so they don't take up much room and I can hang up to 2 loads on them, although I might get another! I also put duvet covers over the shower cubicle. Basically a total mess but it gets dry! I feel your pain though, laundry is a nightmare.

INeedNewShoes · 17/08/2019 20:54

I had a Sheila's Maid style pulley airer installed above the stairs. It's brilliant. Between it plus two banister airers and a few bits on coat hangers in doorways I can dry two wash loads at once easily within 24 hours when the heating's on or in the summer when the house is warm.

notso · 17/08/2019 20:59

If mine gets rained on I just leave it out.
We've recently moved and I know have a covered outdoor area which is great.

WrongKindOfFace · 17/08/2019 21:00

Airer and a dehumidifier works really well. Stick both in the smallest room and shut the door. Take a load of wet washing to the launderette as well - don’t have to wash it there.

Superlooper · 17/08/2019 21:01

Tumble dryer. Guilt free with all the showers we've been getting.

Any coin operated ones near you if you don't own one?

Oblomov19 · 17/08/2019 21:03

I hung 2 lots out today. Pulled it in just as it started to rain. Drives me mad.

SushiGo · 17/08/2019 21:03

We have a tiny house and a tall/tower airer. It's brilliant. We have a little dehumidifier that I run next to it for a few hours instead of opening the windows which is really effective.

Planning to by a tumble dryer soon though because we struggle to keep up in the winter.

Agree with this. Stair well was the best place for drying laundry in my old house (no banister in new house Sad) even without heating on. Close all the doors upstairs so the warm air stays in the landing. You could also put a dehumidifier there too to grab all the moisture and they also pump out some heat.

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 17/08/2019 21:05

Can't you put it on an airer? I get a whole wash on mine, it was £8 from home bargs.

Usually dry the next day.

Kneeknee · 17/08/2019 21:06

I feel your pain.

I'm sick of this weather.

I've just thrown a tantrum because that's their third living room cushion DD has pissed on this week.

Binge eating Pringles rather than face up to all that laundry.

Then she shat in the bath Sad

Elieza · 17/08/2019 21:08

I got those radiator airer hanger bar things and use them on the radiators.

If it’s something long, like trousers, I hang them on the radiator hanger and hang it over a door. I hang sheets over doors too.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 17/08/2019 21:09

If you are crying over the frustrations of trying to get laundry dry when it keeps raining - yes, I do think you need to be worried. I haven't rtwf but do you live on your own? If not, is your partner also crying about it?

Betsy86 · 17/08/2019 21:12

I’ve got one of the small indesit 3kg dryers. Its compact and does the job. Its in the bedroom but i dont even care i would rather look at that than have it all over the place.
Previous dryer broke and went a year without one but glad i invested in this little dryer so handy for towels etc. Only 2 of us in my house so its probably not great for larger families but to be honest even if it was used to just get all the uniforms etc dry on a weekend it would save alot of hassle in bas weather!x
