Dad V Mum (toilet related)

NannaNoodleman · 17/08/2019 15:17

How come whenever my DH, father of my children, goes to the toilet he gets left in peace for the duration of his stay. Whereas the second I step over the bathroom threshold a herd of toddlers and preschoolers come swarming in with urgent questions, tasks, demands, injuries, and news?!

Every.Single.Time

What is this phenomenon?

You need to get a lock on the toilet door. If you're worried about kids living themselves in put it up high, at the top of the door.

Crunchymum · 17/08/2019 15:24

The lock only means they can't get on. Doesn't mean they can't lurk outside for a meaningful chat.

I may not may not have the same issue Grin

Get a lock and insist that the door is soundproof so no point in talking to you through it.

NannaNoodleman · 17/08/2019 15:28

We have a lock. One of those integrated locks that you can open from the outside to stop people getting trapped. The know how to open it from the outside! It's like the velociraptor scene from Jurassic Park.

How many kids do you have? Confused

TeamUnicorn · 17/08/2019 15:45

Yeah, same in my house.

SouthernLands · 17/08/2019 15:46

I solved this by saying "go ask Daddy, he's in the bathroom!" Grin

DH then realised how annoying it was and started to attempt to stop them coming to the bathroom when I was there.

Crochetymum · 17/08/2019 15:52

Mine have a chat through the door, if I'm in the bath my daughter will post notes through for me to read. And as soon as my bum hits the seat I get "who's in there, how long will you be?" And no dad doesn't get it at all really. Mum's are just the answer to everything! I even say I'm not answering I'M ON THE TOILET!.as loud as I can and they still do it next time. Same if I sit down to eat something, "what's that? That looks nice. I haven't tried that before."

DramaAlpaca · 17/08/2019 15:56

Ah yes. Not so fond memories. I knew my children were growing up when this stopped happening. These days it's the dog that follows me Confused

NannaNoodleman · 17/08/2019 16:34

... oh, I get the cats in there too!

DH never ever gets disturbed. I think I'm a tad jealous.

OP posts:
Sirzy · 17/08/2019 16:36

I have never been disturbed except for emergencies because I say “not now” and then ignore!
I think sometimes parents, especially mums, are guilty of getting themselves stuck in traps like this by not setting simple boundaries!

Powerplant · 17/08/2019 16:42

And the dog used to come in for good measure too.

Gertie75 · 17/08/2019 18:22

I bribe mine, 10p for a 'poo in peace'.
Works a treat and worth every penny.
