PPI Claim

Belindabelle · 17/08/2019 11:08

I have not put in a claim got PPI yet. It has been on my to do list for ages but I am a terrible procrastinator. I also have menopausal anxiety at the moment and seemingly easy tasks overwhelm me. The deadline is 29th August so I am going to try and do it this weekend.

I just wondered if anyone has applied recently and could give me some pointers. I will need to fill out an online form I think but which one. Is there one form or do you have to do separate forms for different companies?

I need an idiots guide.

Has anyone else not done it yet?

You phone them up - they send you forms. It really isnt as complex as you are making it out to be

celtiethree · 17/08/2019 11:14

Don’t use a company offering services. Try this link:

QOD · 17/08/2019 11:14

Do it. I was 100% adamant I’d never had it as I work in insurance and knew it wasn’t of any use to us (dh self employed)
Turned out we’d been paying £20 for years and years as an account fee - I can’t remember what it was labelled as but wasn’t called PPI
In that time we’d both been made redundant and obviously not claimed ... got £12 000

All you need to do is go into your bank(s) and ask for a PPI form and fill it in and send it off.
I did this with lLloyds and I initially got a letter back saying I didnt have anything that I could claim so I thought nothing more of it. Less than a week later I got another one through saying they had searched further back and I was owed money and sent a statement showing the breakdown of payments. 3 days after that I got a cheque for just over £11,000.
If I had used a company they would have got a decent % of that.
Inspired by success I got in touch with CC companies from years ago. I got another 6k back.

Or this one, I’ve used resolver before for other claims. It’s always worked well:

You don't even need to call them, just write a list of who you have had loans and credit cards with and go to their websites. They've all got forms that you can complete and they'll check if you had any PPI. Then, if you did, they'll ask you to fill in a form detailing why you feel you were missold.

Don't use a claims company. There is nothing they can do that you cannot do yourself.

ExpletiveDelighted · 17/08/2019 11:16

I did one yesterday. I went to the website of the company that sold me it (google firmname PPI claim), downloaded the forms, filled them in, added a covering letter and a copy of a document relating to the PPI and sent it all in. If you don't know the answers to some of the questions just do your best (I had to put approx dates) and make sure you sign and date it.

AndroidSheep · 17/08/2019 11:18

Money saving expert has an online system they recommend. No phone calls or paper forms to do. It's called Resolver.co.uk Just sign up, fill in the blanks online (they'll send the e-mails for you) wait for responses. It'll prompt you to message them or to escalate the claim as necessary until you get a response.

Mine all came back as no PPI in place, but DH got money back doing it this way.

ssd · 17/08/2019 11:19

I must admit I'm using Gladstone Brooks. I just wasn't sure if I'd tried to claim before, and I wasn't sure how to go about it. I've never had PPI money so I don't think I have claimed. I doubt I'll get anything but with the deadline coming up I thought I'd try. If I get nothing I won't have lost.

AmateurSwami · 17/08/2019 11:21

Money saving expert resolver tool. I’ve never had ppi but have helped friends claim back a total £6k between them all.

Paddingtonthebear · 17/08/2019 11:24

I used the Which? online system here

www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/advice/how-to-reclaim-mis-sold-ppi

Paddingtonthebear · 17/08/2019 11:26

I got £3500 back due to the FCA's Plevin rule which says that if more than 50 per cent of your PPI's cost went as commission to the lender, and this wasn't explained to you, you are owed the extra money above that cost. I didn’t even know I had PPI and the products dated back to 1998-2000. All I did was send the form to the bank via the Which link, I didn’t have any other information

Hidingtonothing · 17/08/2019 11:28

Do you know which companies you had PPI with OP? If so then yes, ring them direct and they will send you a form to fill in. Give me a shout (here or PM) if you struggle with the forms, they're not usually too bad but I did ours fairly recently (and also have anxiety!) so it might be useful to have someone to ask if you get stuck.

The main thing you need to remember is you do need to give a reason why you think you were mis-sold, in our case we were told we wouldn't get the credit unless we did, which happened to lots of people at that time. They might ask you that on the phone before they send the forms so thought I should mention it.

If you have account numbers etc that's great and have them ready when you call but don't worry if not, most of mine were with one lender and I just gave them name and address details and they found the accounts. It all felt a bit intimidating to start with but it was actually really easy so don't be put off, more than happy to handhold if you need it.

I can't remember who my car loan was financed through Sad via Fiat 18 years ago!

FiveLittlePigs · 17/08/2019 11:33

MSE Resolver. Free, one online form and no hassle.

Hidingtonothing · 17/08/2019 11:35

Might be worth googling Fiat finance, your area and the year Random, some company names do come up, might jog your memory?

Belindabelle · 17/08/2019 11:42

Thank you all. I am definitely going to do it.

I had an account with Clydesdale bank for years that I paid £25 for the privilege of. I was never asked if I want to have that account just changed to it when I turned 18 and they moved me on from a child account. Does anyone know if I can claim that back and would I just go about it the same way. I also had a credit card and a loan with them at some point to which I assume I paid ppi for. I don’t have any account numbers or anything though 😩

AmateurSwami · 18/08/2019 23:24

@allyouneedis try resolver! It explains it all on there

Jarstastic · 18/08/2019 23:34

Go to the Fca website it has contact details of everyone. Write/email asking them to check your accounts for ppi. You don’t need the numbers and if you do supply them, ask them to also check if you had any other accounts that you didn’t supply the number to, otherwise they will just check that account.
Many are doing automatic pay outs. (Few exceptions eg Santander) so you may not have to fill in a form unless they ask you to.
I’d get them done ASAP and write letters using recorded delivery (‘signed for’). You just need to get your request to look in before the deadline.

Rockbird · 18/08/2019 23:36

I put a request in through revolver yesterday and had a message back to say they're looking into it. But I'm away on holiday so anything they send in the post won't be received for a couple of weeks. Presumably that's ok as the case has been opened before the deadline?

AntiHop · 18/08/2019 23:39

Do it tomorrow as first thr banks have to check if you've had ppi and then you made a claim. You might have left it too late now as the banks need time to check first if you've had ppi. For tesco and sainsbury loans you can do the first step on the phone which will speed things up.

Speakercube · 18/08/2019 23:48

I've just done mine after putting it off. It's not difficult Op- I'm waiting for my forms but I don't think they will be difficult to fill in. Dont put it off any longer - you'll kick yourself later otherwise.

Speakercube · 18/08/2019 23:50

Also- has anyone claimed from Scottish Life? They now come under Royal Life and the man on the phone there said that Scot Life never offered ppi? I'm a bit suss about that though?
