IN AN AWFUL AIRBNB HELP

Ok so I'm currently at an Airbnb, it's an attachment off from the hosts house. It's a really nice place but I'm fuming at the mo. Last night I was up until 12am due to their children (I'm assuming their room is beside the wall my bed is against) screaming, shouting and banging on the wall. Throwing what sounds like marbles at the wall and all over the floor. Then the hosts keep shouting at them. They don't stop. Last night it started at 19:00 and it didn't stop whilst I tried to sleep. I think I managed to doze off at 12ish. And now it's happening again. I have messaged the host very kindly that the noise is loud and keeping me up, and they haven't responded and the noise hasn't stopped. It sounds like they are literally in the room with me the walls are like paper. I have just messaged Airbnb aswell requesting a refund and seeing if they can contact the host? I'm worried because I have one more night here after tonight and I don't want them getting angry and kicking me out or something? Or leaving my stuff in the street whilst I'm out tomorrow. I just need some help on what to do because I'm losing the plot here!!!! Confused

Oh my life I forgot to mention also, they CONSTANTLY set the fire alarm off from cooking. It's doing it now also.

Can you stay somewhere else whilst Airbnb sort your refund?

unknownn · 16/08/2019 21:46

@Funghi I'm not sure. I just can't miss my event and the location is right near it. And apparently the refund process is very long, I don't know if they will even give me a refund. I can't afford to pay elsewhere with no refund :((

You should definitely get a refund, air bnb are very keen to keep their customers. Is there anywhere else localish available you could move to for tomorrow night?

yearinyearout · 16/08/2019 21:48

We had a refund and it went through to our bank account the next day even though they said it could take days. I would be inclined to go and knock the front door.

Sarahlou63 · 16/08/2019 21:48

Leave in the morning, take your stuff with you. Book in somewhere else and contact Airbnb for a refund.

Herocomplex · 16/08/2019 21:48

I hope you’re recording the noise on your phone.

Herocomplex · 16/08/2019 21:49

If all else fails get earplugs tomorrow! Have you got headphones with you, can you play music to drown out the noise?

RushianDisney · 16/08/2019 21:50

Record evidence on your phone so you have proof for getting your refund.

SacramentoMN · 16/08/2019 21:56

Knock on the door and ask them to be quieter. Phone them rather than text. They need to know.

Funghi · 16/08/2019 21:58

I feel for you OP. How about using some white noise on very loud for tonight and hopefully you’ll have your refund sorted tomorrow.

Definitely leave an honest review afterwards.

Skittlenommer · 16/08/2019 21:59

Did the reviews not mention it at all? I bet it’s not a one off! Little shits!

unknownn · 16/08/2019 22:03

I have recorded it. It's such a loud clear recording too that's how loud it is. Thanks for advice. I'm just going insane. The only review that mentioned anything about it was something about how the walls are a little thin. That was it. Why don't people be honest and save people the agg!!

Regarding reviews, my first Air BnB experience was not a good one despite all the reviews being fairly good. None of them mentioned the terrible damp in one of the bedrooms which made me wonder whether the host can somehow edit negative reviews?

unknownn · 16/08/2019 22:11

That's what I'm wondering now cause honestly someone out of the 50 reviews on there SUUUUrely would have mentioned this. I'm not one to miss anything on reviews I read them letter by letter.

The host just replied saying he didn't realise I was in. He didn't realise I was in at 10 at night??? How does this guy still have customers Angry

Secind the white noise. Look up rain on youtube. It really helps drown out background noise

saraclara · 16/08/2019 22:15

The problem with airbnbs that bring people in close proximity to the owners, is that people feel awkward leaving bad reviews. I take reviews where the customer has stayed in the same house as the owners, with a pinch of salt.

It's much easier to leave a bad review when you haven't met the owners at all.

Skittlenommer · 16/08/2019 22:17

Leave them a brutally honest review as well as getting your money back!

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 16/08/2019 22:38

Airbnb is strange for reviews. I recently reviewed somewhere I stayed (it was great) but it popped up with a message that my review wouldn't be published until the owner had seen it and responded (or something along those lines).

mathanxiety · 16/08/2019 22:44

Leave asap and file for a refund. Leave an accurate review.

DD2 recently left an air bnb within 15 minutes of check-in and got a refund within 12 hours. Place was a kip and smelled of cigarettes.

madrose · 16/08/2019 22:46

if the host doesn't leave you a review, your review won't be shown. So they tend to know if they're going to get a negative one and then they won't write one and the tenants review will just disappear into the ether.

museumsandgalleries666 · 16/08/2019 23:01

You have 2 weeks to write an Airbnb review. Once both host and guest have written reviews they are both visible. But if one doesn't review, the other is visible after the two weeks is up.

You also get constant reminders within the two week window to review, so it's not an oversight if one doesn't review.

It's ridiculous to suggest people don't leave honest (ie bad) reviews if they've met the host, I've seen some awful reviews by both guests and hosts.

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 16/08/2019 23:13

@museumsandgalleries666 thank you for the clarification - I'm glad the reviews can't be easily manipulated just by the owner not reviewing the guest. I'm still waiting for mine to appear and wasn't clear on exactly how it worked.

unknownn · 17/08/2019 13:15

@madrose that makes a whole lot of sense.

Well Airbnb finally acknowledged my email to them saying they'll get someone to contact me so hopefully a refund soon. I have to stay there tonight as there is nothing else in the area but I'll be banging back on the walls tonight. Hmm
