Clearing up the house

Toothproblems · 16/08/2019 17:17

İ work from home so don't really have time to run around cleaning all day and since DC have been home for the holidays the house looks like a disaster! Trying to tackle it today and have done quite a bit. But i just know that tomorrow it will look like a tip again.

When do kids stop making so much mess? Granted i have 4. One is a newborn. But geez my second is starting school in September so I'm hoping that means less mess from September until half term... Clutching at straws!

[sorry!] but maybe in 18 years?

lucysmam · 16/08/2019 17:20

Urm...when they have their own place?

Tbf, mine are 12 and 9, and my house is not too bad if you ignore their bedrooms, my bedroom, and the piles of random in the kitchen

I have 7 and my house is not a mess, even in the holidays.

You need to be in a good routine and you also need to get your kids to tidy up after themselves. Mine put things away when they’ve finished with them ( not always on their own, I do have to remind them!) and they also give their room a quick tidy before bed every night, little and often is easier and it only takes them a couple of minutes.

My dh also does as much as I do, we both own our own business and work from home so we both do the housework too. I know not everyone can do this but really everyone in the house should be pulling their weight whether they work or not!

The organised mum method works for me, have a look on Instagram for it.

Toothproblems · 16/08/2019 17:25

Damn. No hope then!

They are 6, 4, 2 and a new born. DH works out of the house long hoursm. Doesn't get much time off. Family run business. He works at the place of business i work for the business at home.

You are right tweeting but they aren't very co operative. İ don't even know where the mess comes from! They must wait for me to leave the room. Create a tornado then sit dow n looking like angels!!

See, making excuses for him!

Sometimes my dh has to leave early in the morning ( I won’t go into what we do means sometimes he has to work outside the home) and before he does he lets the dogs out, feed them, cleans up any mess in the dog room, let’s the chickens out, feeds them, poo picks, washes up anything from the night before, feeds the cats, puts a wash on and brings me a cup of tea in bed!

If they want to “help” then they can.

My children are 11,10,9,8,6,5 and 6 months and I have another on the way, they all help except the youngest and they earn pocket money, if they don’t do their jobs then I pocket money. It works!

8 kids! Bloody hell i take my hat off to you

İ tried the pocket money thing. They weren't that bothered. A bit young for that i think. Funny enough the 2 year old is the helpful one... For now.

I've done well. İ can see the floor again. Kids have put their toys away for now.... Now to start dinner

We incentivise with pocket money too for sorting the washing, emptying dishwasher etc. They also tidy up every night and have to keep their rooms tidy. I’m very much a tidy up as we go along kind of person though so it’s never usually a complete bomb site.
