It is going to rain all day which will make the Causeway a nightmare. You could just go & sit in the Goldolphin Arms and watch everyone else struggle across. St Ives will be a nightmare and the car park at St Erth for the park & train probably filled up hours ago. Have you been to the National Maritime Museum at Falmouth yet? Alternatively, go into Truro & go to the cinema, have a spot of lunch or a coffee at Fig in the Lemon Street market next door.

Overseasmom100 · 16/08/2019 11:09

Ah will it be awful? Done Truro alot and cinema already.

No not down Falmouth

Agree with cinema / lunch in Truro! There are also escape rooms in Truro and Penzance.

The (outdoor) Jubilee Pool in Penzance is wonderful and might be fun in the rain as you'd be getting wet anyway...

BrunettesDoItBetter · 16/08/2019 11:12

Sit in a cafe and eat your body weight in pasties and cream teas?

Overseasmom100 · 16/08/2019 11:14

Escape rooms all booked up!!!!!!

Eden project?

Lindy2 · 16/08/2019 11:16

We're in Cornwall too. Our plan for today is to go to a leisure centre and go swimming.

Hoghgyni · 16/08/2019 11:18

The Causeway is cobbled and only accessible at low tide, which I think will be between 11 -3 ish today. Otherwise you will be queuing for boats in the rain. It's a long slog to get up to the house if it's wet (speaking from years of being forced up there on school trips whatever the weather) and as dull as dishwater for a 14 year old if they don't like ceramics and dining rooms.

Up near Truro at Penhallow is Healey's cider farm, where they make Rattler. You could go for a cider tour. Don't think about trying to go up as far as Eden. Every holiday maker in Cornwal is heading there right now. Personally, I would find a good pub with wifi, take a pack of card and some books/gadgets and settle down with a decent lunch.

Second the Jubilee Pool if you're planning to go Penzance way - it's not cold here just wet.
Country Skittles near Hayle is good, also have nice food.
Healy's Cider Farm just outside Truro is good if you don't mind getting a bit damp.
Telegraph Musuem near Porthcurno.

Seahorseshoe · 16/08/2019 11:20

Healy's cyder farm is a free day out, animals, cider - orchard tractor rides. If it's raining, we always go to the Lizard, parking at the NT, eating an Anne's pasty in the car, listening to the fog horn. There's a lighthouse there too. Stormy seas are interesting to watch. But I say that from an adults perspective.

keiratwiceknightly · 16/08/2019 11:21

We had a soaking day in Cornwall last year. Went to a big market, bought the ingredients for a big roast dinner and a second hand dvd or two and a second hand jigsaw from a charity shop then lit the fire, cooked the dinner and watched the dvds/did the jigsaw. It was lovely and both teens enjoyed it as much as we did!

Hoghgyni · 16/08/2019 11:23

Coast in the Lizard village would top off Seahorseshoe's day nicely. Or an ice cream in the rain at Roskillys.

Overseasmom100 · 16/08/2019 11:32

We are near Healy's so might pop there

Second @Hoghgyni suggestion of lunch in the Godolphin Arms! Lovely spot.

If it’s windy might be good to see if there’s any kite surfers out in Marazion.

Mousehole isn’t too far from there and it’s quite nice for a wander - the Rock Pool Cafe is great for afternoon tea (or early evening cocktails) and the Ship is good for a pint. Not sure how grim the traffic / parking would be - last 2 times i went on the bus from Penzance!

If you need rainy day plans for another day, Pothcurno is good - Telegraph Museum, Minack Theatre and a gorgeous beach.

Hope you have a good day whatever you do

Overseasmom100 · 16/08/2019 12:23

Last day today...weather hasnt been great only managed 3 days on the beach.Blush

We went to Cornwall one year , rained most of the time , but to be fair it was early September .

theluckiest · 16/08/2019 12:43

Same here!! We're on the North coast though.
Bit of a shame that it's our last full day but we've just bunged a load of spare clothes in the car and got the waterproofs out for a coastal walk followed by drying off in a pub...Grin

Have a dog too so that does limit where we can shelter so we just thought 'Bugger it...'

megletthesecond · 16/08/2019 12:46

Lizard Lighthouse?
Polpeor Cafe on Lizard Point. The seals might be out.

TwattingDog · 16/08/2019 12:52

The Mount is closed for the day due to the high winds.

Overseasmom100 · 16/08/2019 22:18

So had a wet day saw St MM parked up and watched kite surfers then made our way to The Lizard saw the Light House and had a lovely cream.team. Home tomortow but nevermind

On the bright side, the traffic may be lighter for you tomorrow as so many campers will have packed up and gone home today not wanting to face another soggy night in a tent. They did the same last Friday.
