Feeling tired, achy and middle aged - what do I need in my life ?

I’ve just officially entered my late 40s and I’m feeling a bit - well, middle aged . I’m quite overweight , not very sporty . I’ve noticed that I have a lot less energy recently and knees and back ache a bit when o get out of bed or when I’ve been sitting still
I would like to find something to regain some energy and eventually fitness.
Would yoga be a good idea ? If so what type ( I got a bit confused by all the types ) . I’ve done Pilates in the past too and enjoyed that
Does anyone have any other suggestions

Might be worth getting your thyroid levels checked.

I got a fitbit. It's motivating me to walk a lot more. Im 50 and creaky.

I also bought a monthly pass at a yoga studio. I've been to class 8 times in last 10 days and already feel a lot better, more mobile and less stiff.

A Fitbit (other fitness trackers are available) to motivate you to move. Yoga or Pilates - try different classes to find a teacher you like, IME that’s even important than finding a style you like. Glycolic acid toners or retinol to give your skin a glow. And I find taking B12 tablets really boosts my energy.

Some great ideas . Thank you
Interesting about finding a good yoga teacher rather than worrying about the style
My mum has always had low thyroid levels so i will get that checked out
( off to google local yoga class and B12 supplements now)

I’m similar to you. I’m 60 in a month or so and am starting to creak.
If I kneel down I cant get back up without holding on to something or getting into an undignified crab position (on all fours) first 😂
When I get out of bed it takes a while for my joints to catch up with my mind, so I hobble for a couple of minutes.
I think (I know) that I need to do more walking and Ive been considering yoga for a while. Maybe swimming too.
Some interesting ideas here. Thanks for starting the thread Op.

I’ve taken up spin classes in the past year and feel soooo much fitter.

But pick one thing and do it weekly for 3 months. Then expand out. Build the habit first.

Also vit D and B12.

CallSignCharlie · 15/08/2019 22:11

Ooh spin classes sound scary lol
But I like the advice to pick something and stick with it . It takes a while to form a habit
Thanks again for all the tips
