Nice surprise for children coming home

When I was little if I'd been on a school trip away or with family my mum would tidy and move my room around and buy flowers (quite young, wouldn't have liked as a teenager lol). I loved this. My boys have been away 2 weeks visiting family, I've missed them terribly, what sweet little things could I do as a surprise for when they get home? So far I've got wash bedding and make a cake!

New DVD and popcorn and have a movie night?

moobar · 15/08/2019 13:51

Awww, that's sweet. It's the little things sometimes isn't it. What's their favourite dinner? Or takeaway?

Like you say, clean beds a must.

Maybe some snacks that they love?

How old? My nephew loves a board game evening, good way to chat and catch up. Have fun.

Pokemon cards did the trick here!

steppemum · 15/08/2019 14:10

tidy and clean bedroom, and a little somethign on their pillow, like small bag of sweets or small toy.

SmartPlay · 15/08/2019 14:13

This is so lovely! I don't have any ideas for you, but I will steal your general idea :D

Thanks everyone, they are 9 and 5. Love the something on the pillow idea!

Favourite tea is a great call too, think I'm going to need to sneak in some veg though after 2 weeks with the grandparents, they're going to need a sugar detox probably ha.

My kids are away for a week next week staying with my dad and his wife and I'm getting them new beds and bedding while they're away.
Maybe get new bedding of their favourite cartoon character, football team etc?

Lwmommy · 15/08/2019 15:27

A few balloons blown up and on their bedroom door.

Not sure exactly what it is about balloons but they always make you feel celebrated and happy even if there's not a party.

BikeRunSki · 15/08/2019 15:31

I was going to say balloons on the front door, like fir parties

Snooks1971 · 15/08/2019 15:41

A comic each? Yes I know they’re ££ and full of tat and last ten mins Hmm but that’s exactly why mine liked them at around your boys’ ages, because they were seldom allowed them Grin

Shouldcolder · 15/08/2019 15:42

Paddling pool out?

Slaymill · 15/08/2019 15:50

I would do a card for each of the boys saying something you missed about them.

A tray set out the mini milk bottles with a name tag each and homemade cake/bun/biscuits take your choice.

Or a copy of a magazine each I think this is great site www.whizzpopbang.com and bag of penny sweets each if you have an old fashion shop nearby. Though their are loads online.

Thank you such lovely ideas 😊 can't wait to get them back.

When my dc arrive home I always cook their favourite supper.
I clean their rooms and put a little gift with their teddy.
Sometimes a little plant or flowers from the garden
Fresh PJs on the radiator if it is winter ready on the bed if summer
I often leave a little note to say how much I love them.

If time, I run them the biggest bubbly bath with bath bombs etc esp after camping trips. I have been known to deliver a glass of sparkling elderflower in a champagne flute, but that tends to be on very special occasions.

lovelookslikethis · 15/08/2019 20:33

Mainly I feel so relieved that they are home safely, and seeing their little faces again always reminds me how much I love them.
