Hi Mumsnet, I am 34 weeks pregnant and my belly skin is red and itchy right up to the top of my bump. Looks and feels like sunburn (but it's def not!) . Any advice or help us appreciated, thanks !!

That may be worth getting checked out. Can you call your midwife or GP?

It's important you do!

Sounds like PUPPS, can't remember what it stands for! I had it when pregnant with my first. Need to see your GP or midwife. They gave me some aqueous cream with menthol which was amazing to relieve it.

Go to see your GP or midwife ASAP op. I think itching in pregnancy is linked to possible liver problems. I had this and had to be monitored daily. All was fine in the end thankfully and DS was actually 2 weeks overdue, but please get yourself checked out just to be safe.

PUPPS. It’s miserable but harmless. I used some weird smelly soap (bought online) and other things I found at the chemist to treat it. It went away in about 2-3 weeks or so.

PUPPS I had this and my midwife advised Chamomile lotion or cream it really works.

AdalindMeisner · 15/08/2019 09:41

I'm sorry but please ignore comments that it is harmless and that it is definitely pupps. I don't mean to be alarmist but itchiness in pregnancy can be serious. Best course of action is to speak to your midwife or maternity unit at hospital and get proper advice.

Get in touch with your midwife. It could be obstetric cholestasis. A blood test will confirm it. It can be very serious. I had it with both of my children.

UnicornCat · 15/08/2019 09:48

I had this and panicked myself. Spoke to my midwife who said they only worry when it's your hands or feet itching. She said it was PUPPS so I just kept it moisturised and it helped. Definitely contact your midwife though. I think if you have other symptoms, they will wanna check you out for the liver condition but I just had itching which is why it was fine.

Thanks all, took your advice. Midwife has done a blood test and in meantime cold water flannels and aqueous cream with menthol. Although the menthol I'm not sure if it's heating it or cooling it- funny sensation. Hope it all helps!
