If you got given 3k unexpectedly

Not via an inheritance or stolen or by any dodgy means Grin
Through back pay you weren't expecting.
What would you do with it?
Spend it on yourself? On what?
Spend it on the family?
Save it?
Pay off your 3k credit card?
Or something else??

Holiday! Every time.

JudgeRindersMinder · 15/08/2019 14:36

Funnily enough I’ve been in exactly that position this year! It’s being spent on holidays to the sun. Had 2 so far since May and number 3 is booked 😁

MelanieFrontage · 15/08/2019 15:32

Mortgage overpayment

DrCoconut · 15/08/2019 15:37

Pay off credit card then put the rest toward the improvements my house needs.

Be1atrix · 15/08/2019 19:20

Debt. BORING

SpanGransNo1Fan · 15/08/2019 19:26

If I was on track to pay the CC before the 0% ended then I’d be putting the money towards my 10K home improvement plan or my camper van fund. If I wasn’t on track to pay off the CC from normal budget before the 0% ended I would use the bonus to pay it/ shorten the term.

Topsy44 · 15/08/2019 20:16

I would pay half the credit card off and spend the rest on a holiday. Best of both worlds then!

pinkboa · 15/08/2019 20:41

Get rid of my debt.

MarkRonsonsMother · 15/08/2019 20:42

Save it.

FixTheBone · 15/08/2019 20:52

100% Pay off debts - in your case likely credit card - and then destroy it.

Unless you can find an bond / shares / savings account that pays 18-29% APR (hint: you wont), paying off the debt is by far and away the best investment.

BrokenWing · 15/08/2019 21:02

Pay off debt even if 0%. Don't live in debt.
Put in bank as top up to savings for future expected expenses (ds(15) driving lessons /insurance or uni)

speakout · 15/08/2019 21:05

Save it, But I am boring with money,

BentNeckLady · 15/08/2019 21:06

At the moment another log burner and some garden furniture

CupoTeap · 15/08/2019 21:10

A car - really need to change mine.

ButtercupGirI · 17/08/2019 19:25

Towards my car debt.

user1494050295 · 17/08/2019 19:30

This happened to my brother. He was living on the continent and one month got £3k extra in his paycheck. He asked his boss and was told he received it because your wife has had a baby!!!!!! Apparently company policy, when my brother told his wife her response was appropriately “I’m the one who had the effing baby” and took the money for herself

notacooldad · 17/08/2019 19:32

Give it to DP.

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/08/2019 19:35

Pay off the CC

Then stick the credit cards payment monthly amount in a savings account. Soon enough you have the 3K back to spend on a holiday. With no debt!

cushioncovers · 17/08/2019 19:36

Pay off credit card

Littlechocola · 17/08/2019 19:36

Pay off the debt or put it in savings.

Littlechocola · 17/08/2019 19:37

What @MrsTerryPratchett said

Dieu · 17/08/2019 19:37

A gastric balloon, or towards a fab holiday next summer for me and the children (single parent).
Two very different possibilities, I grant you!

pinkprosseco · 17/08/2019 19:38

I always try to do half and half in situations where I have more money than I thought: half to a debt or savings and half on something nice

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 17/08/2019 19:51

In your circumstances I’d pay off the debt.

For me, I’d add most of it to the children’s savings and use a little for a treat.

wildcherries · 17/08/2019 19:54

£2k on debt since it's interest-free and then use the last £1k on a holiday or something you would enjoy.
