Do you have to undress when you have an ecg?

I’ve got to have an ecg at the doctors but was wondering if I can keep my clothes on?

Being topless might make the procedure simple and more efficient for the nurse. I would imagine being half naked might make some people feel very stressed, especially when there is no need to be. Being in control of the consultation and refusing to remove clothing might allow the OP to feel less stressed.

It's been years but I'm sure I had to unhook my bra (but could leave it on) when I had ECGs.

I have had 2 in the last 3 weeks and I didn't have to undress. The nurse or doctor will put them on under your clothes which protects your modesty.

If you have an underwired bra you may need to remove it as metal can interfere with the reading but other than that you can place pads by feel.

Iv had multiple, ive had to remove my top everytime.

Why not ask for someone else to do it then? I wouldn't want to possibly compromise a test for this.

Picklypickles · 14/08/2019 18:38

I've had a few when I've been having pre-op tests and I've always had to remove top and bra and lay under a sheet but they have all been over with pretty quickly.

Missing the point, there. Being quicker, with less fiddling about under clothes to put it in the right position by sight rather than guesswork, would speed it up to the benefit of the PATIENT who gets it over and done with more quickly. It is done privately and discreetly , at least in non emergency situations.

You don't need to be topless for an ECG. Just wear a vest and they'll apply the stickers and wires in the same theory as the knicker trick. It's all about respect for privacy and dignity.

I have had two and never needed to remove anything
