Properly carried out gamekeeping and predator control benefits all upland/moorland ground nesting birds not just the grouse shooting industry.

The moorland we have rights to graze our sheep on isn't gamekeepered anymore and there has been a noticeable decline in lapwings, curlews, snipe etc in the years since.

I completely disagree with illegal raptor control, but I also strongly believe that predator numbers need to be managed humanely for the benefit of all wildlife.

Sick of seeing fields and trees full of buzzards, corvids and kites eating worms and picking off smaller birds and birds eggs at the huge detriment to song birds, ground nesting birds and small mammals.

It's a very short sighted and poorly written petition. I wonder what alternative uses of the uplands they have in mind which will be more ecologically sound and be able to employ large numbers of local people in rural and sparsely populated areas?

I’m not signing because the use of a fen trap is perfectly legal.

On our farm, we accidentally caught a tawny owl. It wasn’t able to fly away so it went for treatment at an owl rehoming centre.

Fenn traps are legal until 2020 when they will be banned outright.

Indiscriminate use of Fenn traps is not perfectly legal as all Fenn traps should be covered with only a small space between the cover and the closed trap.

If you caught a Tawny Owl you set an illegal trap Your ignorance of the law is worrying but not surprising.

I signed a couple of days ago and shared widely on social media. Keep sharing people, shine a light on this disgusting practice!

Bumping
We're nearly at 60,000 👍

TheInebriati · 17/08/2019 12:33

I have signed. I but it annoys me that petitions like this and the one to ban netting get loads of signatures, and ones for things like 'fund domestic violence shelters' get nothing.

Subculture · 17/08/2019 17:13

Indeed it is but it's more annoying that any of these causes need a petition.

Over 61,000 now.
