Properly carried out gamekeeping and predator control benefits all upland/moorland ground nesting birds not just the grouse shooting industry.
The moorland we have rights to graze our sheep on isn't gamekeepered anymore and there has been a noticeable decline in lapwings, curlews, snipe etc in the years since.
I completely disagree with illegal raptor control, but I also strongly believe that predator numbers need to be managed humanely for the benefit of all wildlife.
Sick of seeing fields and trees full of buzzards, corvids and kites eating worms and picking off smaller birds and birds eggs at the huge detriment to song birds, ground nesting birds and small mammals.
It's a very short sighted and poorly written petition. I wonder what alternative uses of the uplands they have in mind which will be more ecologically sound and be able to employ large numbers of local people in rural and sparsely populated areas?
