Cat shitting in my gravel driveway!!

theladylovescupcakes · 14/08/2019 08:46

We have a few cats in the street, and it appears that one of them is shitting in my gravel driveway (right next to the driver's door). How can I stop this happening? Is there anything I can put down to deter it? I though it was a one off, but when I went to get rid of the evidence (that I also stepped in!!) there were a few little parcels which makes me think it's been happening more often. Thanks in advance.

This happened to poor DP after carefully and lovingly laying a gravel bed in his garden. Woke up the next morning and it was like cat-shit city. To add insult to injury, the local tom was crouching, poised, maintaining steady eye contact with us through the window.

We tried citronella oil, which seems to be doing the job.

Oh no! I'm convinced the perpetrator was giving me evils as I was cleaning up.... I'll give that a try, thanks.

I was buying white vinegar today and the top review talked about how it was good for stopping cats going to the loo on the driveway. I know no more than that but may be worth a google.

We've had success with Scat a cat granules. It's an old packet we had in the shed but I'm sure you can still get similar. I was a bit dubious but seems to be working.

I have four of the willy waving little vandals doing it on my garden. They do it in plain sight, couldn't care less !They also rip the rubbish bags apart, as soon as I put them out in the morning.ahhh !!! . They live four houses away. Why my house ?!!!

sueelleker · 14/08/2019 19:05

My Dad gravelled his front garden, and the neighbourhood cats thought it was the biggest litter tray in the world!

Gobbolinocat · 14/08/2019 19:08

Unfortunately the scent will remain whatever you do bar take it all up, re tarmac with scents in the tarmac.

Once they get that first shit in.
We had same in garden dh has even dug up sods of earth I have sprayed with everything. A feeling months layer.... The largest most Vile diroerah cat shit covered in blue bottles you could imagine...

I'd get rid of the gravel.

Despite having 3 yapping dogs, security lights and god knows what other deterrents, I've found the only thing that seems to stop the feline bastards defecating on my drive is one of those metal cat shaped garden spikes with glowing eyes.

I have literally tried every commercial and natural cat deterring including buying dried Lion Shit from Marwell Zoo to spread round the drive....nope, did sweet sod all.

I can't guarantee it will work for you but we've gone from a pile of shit every night to once a month

CleanHonestGoals · 14/08/2019 19:19

Not tried it myself (as it my own cats shitting in the borders) but male urine is supposed to be a decent deterrant..Not suggesting DH goes out and urinates on the drive as he may get funny looks from the neighbours but in a bottle and liberally placed may help

MaggieFS · 14/08/2019 19:22

My mum used to swear by scattering hot chilli powder - reckoned it was strong enough to be a deterrent even after they'd marked her garden as their toilet zone

theladylovescupcakes · 14/08/2019 20:50

Some good suggestions here, thank you!

When our dog was alive we never had cats or foxes in our garden. Could you borrow a dog to pee all round your garden once a week?

CTRL · 14/08/2019 21:36

Someone suggested Lion poo you can get on amazon on a thread similar to this a few weeks ago.

Apparently it ya something to do with marking territories and all that.

Worth a try

ADrabLittleCrab · 14/08/2019 23:23

Last house had a completely gravelled front that the local cats loved. I used a whole bottle of malt vinegar - front smelt like a chippy for a few days but cats never came back, didn't even have to redo it.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll try the vinegar and/or urine Confused in the first instance and see how we go.

This has been hugely helpful in deciding which driveway to avoid when we replace our tarmac next year 🙈

Fizzpopwhizzbang · 15/08/2019 08:01

My cat absolutely hates the smell of vinegar so I'd say try that

Surfskatefamily · 15/08/2019 08:02

My husband pees in a jug and pours on the garden. Works. Also if a new cat comes to neighbourhood they sometimes pop in and i shop them off straight away before they even have chance to smell garden.

Surfskatefamily · 15/08/2019 08:03

That's meant to be shoo them away

Gobbolinocat · 15/08/2019 09:21

Dog doesn't work, cat sat under wheelbarrow watching dog tearing up and down Barking
