Recommend me your watch (please)

I have been fortunate to come into some money which will ultimately be sucked up into necessary bills and house repairs but before that happens I am going to spend some on a watch.

I always wear a watch and love wearing one. I have usually had a metal bracelet practical watch, so, bigger rather than dainty. My last watches (which all died in the last year) were Seiko, Rip Curl and Gucci (the Rip Curl was my fav as it was the most robust but it was a gift so I've no idea what it cost, actually, they were all gifts I have never spent money on a watch!).

I will spend up to £1k. I walked into a jewellers today and saw a lovely Seiko at £150 and a lovely Longines for £900. I'm torn: invest in an heirloom or just go for a practical one.

I don't own much jewellery, apart from a plain wedding band, I have no engagement ring and I do not have a reputation for being careful with anything but, I would wear the watch all the time so it would earn its keep as such and be safe in that it will always be on my wrist.

What are your experiences and recommendations on watches?

Citizen eco drive. They do plain and fancy, don't need batteries because they solar charge. Mine is fairly plain, stainless steel bracelet, waterproof to 100 metres.

I also have a Citizen Eco Drive. No need to replace batteries every couple of years, with the extra cost of "sending it off" if I want to retain the full waterproofing. I previously had a Citizen, it lasted 17 years & was still fine but I just fancied a change...

I think this is the one I have.

Mine's a Rado, I've had it about 25 years. It's very minimalist design, elegant and classy and hasn't dated in all that time. Keeps perfect time and needs a new battery every 5 years or so. I love my Rado.

Bovril mine is very similar but has some gold (colour not real) trim. It is also my second in many years, the first got a bit battered looking because i wore it dinghy sailing and kayaking. It still worked perfectly though!
They really are good quality and good value.

I've got a Citizen eco drive too. Very happy with it.

Citizen here too. Had mine years now and it’s the only watch that has survived me for any decent length of time

That looks lovely Bovril. High praise for Citizen!
