I wish I could eat crisps!

NC for this as I feel a bit embarrassed at my situation!
For numerous (and boring reasons) I had to have my remaining top teeth out yesterday and a temporary denture put in. It actually went surprisingly well. However, I can't eat anything solid. Understandable as I had 9 extractions Shock but oh my god, all I want is a packet of crisps! I don't want soup or mashed potato or even ice cream. Just some nice salty crisps. I tried! And it was agony Sad

On the positive side at least I should lose some weight! All I've eaten today is a tiny handful of very soggy shreddies and 2 crisps! I don't even know what I want from this thread other than to moan Confused I guess I'm hoping someone has a fantastic idea about how I can get rid of my craving without eating anything sharp and spiky!

Wotsits or Quavers as they melt in your mouth?

Iwantcrisps · 13/08/2019 19:49

Generally I don't like wotsits or quavers (I have salt n shake in the cupboard) but maybe desperate times call for desperate measures!

Skips are goodbye for melting in the mouth!

captainprincess · 13/08/2019 19:52

Oh goodness, poor you. I have no suggestions but wanted to share I had one tooth extracted yesterday and I want to eat chocolate but it's too painful!!

AtleastitsnotMonday · 13/08/2019 19:55

THat should say skips are good for melting in the mouth!

Iwantcrisps · 13/08/2019 19:57

captainprincess I hear you! It's horrible isn't it. I was lucky in a lot of respects, no swelling or bruising and my gums don't hurt too much (unless I try to eat crisps!). So my situation could be a lot worse. I can also see that I will finally have a nice smile once I'm feeling better, after years of hiding my teeth. So trying to focus on the positives. But oh I want those crisps! Grin

I can't eat skips as I have an intense (bordering on phobic) hatred of prawns! So it is goodbye to the skips!

OP I've had a lot of teeth out, and I really wouldn't risk it. I'd give them a chance to heal properly before eating anything solid.
I used to like tinned cream of tomato soup with a bit of grated cheese in it, that was nice and comforting, and the cheese gives it a bit of saltiness.

Iwantcrisps · 13/08/2019 20:03

feelingverylazytoday do you mind me asking how long you were on soft food? I have soup (I stocked up in preparation!) never thought of adding grated cheese to it, and i love cheese Smile So I think I'll try that.

Crush them really small and dip your finger in. I have crushed crisps in sandwiches.

Livebythecoast · 13/08/2019 20:25

What about Smith's salt and vinegar chip sticks?
They're easy to suck and a bit 'melty' in the mouth; not sharp edges like other crisps.
Hope you feel better x

H2OH20Everywhere · 13/08/2019 20:25

Skips are suitable fore vegetarians so can't contain any prawns.

MirrorHope · 13/08/2019 20:26

Sounds horrible I'm so paranoid about losing my teeth. Can I ask why you've had extractions?

Iwantcrisps · 13/08/2019 21:03

@MirrorHope
It was a big combination of factors. I was very neglected in childhood so a lot of damage was done before I even became an adult. Because of that I was never taught good oral hygiene. I did brush my teeth but not as well as I should have because I was never taught properly. Add to that I’m a smoker (totally my responsibility and I accept that). Also for a long time I couldn’t afford private dentistry and the NHS dentists I saw really only did the bare minimum that was required. They did an extraction every now and then but never gave me good advice on looking after my remaining teeth. And they were really mean! Which gave me a major dental phobia. Along with that, the women in my family all had receding gums during menopause, which also affected me. So it wasn’t one single thing.

It’s only now I’ve been able to afford a private dentist and I so wish I’d had the money to see one 30 years ago because I can guarantee I wouldn’t be in this situation now if I had.

However, I am putting it into proportion. I’ve had 2 friends die in the past year. One of a heart attack and one of cancer. So yes it feels a bit shit to have false teeth but in the grand scheme of things it isn’t the end of the world. I’m whinging now but as I said above, the procedure actually went well and I’m sure I’ll adapt as many others have before me. My original post was semi lighthearted as my situation could be far worse!

Ringos are another melty type crisp or the new hoola hoop puffs. I like the salt and vinegar flavour in both .

feelingverylazytoday · 13/08/2019 22:08

OP just a couple of days really, but I only had a maximum of 4 out at any time, so I still had other teeth to chew with, if I was careful.
I recommend plenty of water with your meal as well, so you don't get any little bits of food stuck to the sockets.
