Which is the best weed killer to use before grass seed?

I know weed killer is evil and environmentally bad. We have a giant weed patch for a garden that has never been grass, we want to make it half wildflower meadow and half lawn. We have been pulling up weeds for weeks but the area is too big and we can’t clear it long enough to seed it. So after checking we have no local hedgehogs etc, we have decided to weed killer it to be able to plant the flowers and seeds.

Which is the quickest acting, and will allow us to seed the soonest? And if there is one that isn’t as bad for humans/the environment? We’ll do it first thing in the morning so hopefully any residue will be dry before any wildlife comes out, but we’ve checked.

We used Round-up before we seeded our lawn. Sprayed the area waited for everything to die and then rotivated it, reseeded and rolled it, lawn grew back within a few weeks and we keep on top of it with weed and feed.

Glyphosphate. Same as roundup, but cheaper. Will annihilate anything green, then dissipate to nothing in the soil.

Glyphosate is the active ingredient that's used by large organisations (eg Environment Agency). It degrades on contact with soil.

Thanks, will look into glycophospate. How long before you can seed in it? There has never been grass in this area so only weeds!

Once everything is dead and you've prepped the area (rotivated, raked etc) you can seed straight away I think it takes about a week to 10 days for everything to die so allowing a day or 2 to prep you could likely reased in 10 days or so.
