It would be interesting to see what funding Irish schools get per pupil compared to English schools, especially if salaries aren't expected to be paid out of this funding

I forgot to mention the other cost of going back to school in ireland is the "voluntry contribution" (its not partically voluntry) at secondry that can be up to €400. But its because the grant is quite low. Tje irish national union of teachers say its ess than one euro per pupil per day

@NaughtToThreeSadOnions no book rental in our school. Most of the books are workbooks so can only be used once. My dd is only going into 1st class so no swimming yet.

Irish school.
Eldest child is going into secondary.
iPad €650
Uniform €150
School fee €80 which is a very low fee a lot of other secondary schools are over €200
Stationary (copies folders calculator hardback a4 etc) about €80
the school bus was over €300 for the year.
Three primary aged children and I've paid approx €500 so far on books and school fees. Didn't need uniforms this year as last year's still fit.
Got to love free education 🙄

This year won't be too bad. About 300 for both kids at secondary.

Youmadorwhat · 19/08/2019 11:45

The other aspect Irish schools don’t have to cover in their budget is a kitchen, school dinners, Cooks and mid day supervisors. Irish children bring in a packed lunch.Unless it’s a deis school (deprived area school) when a packed lunch is provided by an external company, but they all still seem bring in a packed lunch anyway.

So apart from those special schools there is no such thing as free school meals and pupil premium?

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 19/08/2019 11:59

Schools with specialist units for ASD/dyslexia/hearing get slightly more funding per pupil but no pupil premium as such

Youmadorwhat · 19/08/2019 12:04

@ineedaholidaynow no such thing as free school meals no. As for grants there are some depending on needs. So for example a child with ASD will be entitled to an SNA (special needs assistant) for a certain amount of hours etc. Schools also get capitation grants based on how many pupils they have etc. We also don’t have classroom TA’s just SNA’s who are assigned to a child. So if you have no children with extra needs then there is no TA. Essentially TA’s A’s known in the UK don’t exist here.

I Spent close to £200 and that’s for a 15 yr old. The bag and shoes came to £90 and then had to buy 2 skirts, 4 shirts, 1 cardigan, a blazer and tights oh and don’t forget the numerous pens, pencils etc

TokyoSushi · 19/08/2019 12:16

Not too bad here, £175 for 2 x primary DC. DD did have shoes in the last week of term though as her pair completely split so only one pair included in the £175. Everything in fairly good condition so just topping up rather than starting from the beginning.

GordonBrockman · 19/08/2019 15:43

£246.96 for two secondary aged children, one going in to yr 7 so needing everything new.

For that I got
Blazer
Tie
Pe socks
Pe top
Pe jumper
Pe bottoms (all branded)
6 school shirts
2 school trousers
2 school skirts
10 pairs of socks
5 pairs of tights
2 pairs of pe shorts
2 pairs of shoes
2 pairs of trainers
2 lunchboxes

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 19/08/2019 15:45

Tunics 40, trousers and skirts 20 from aldi, shoes 15 (clarks from Amazon) , tops 8. Got quite a few things from Facebook uniform swapping site.

DrCoconut · 19/08/2019 16:04

About £45 for 2 boys. DS2 only needed new trousers and PE kit (excluding trainers). DS3 starts school nursery soon so has needed completely kitting out for half the week there.

HerRoyalNotness · 19/08/2019 16:08

School supplies for 2 $175
PE kit $15
Band fees $50
Band Booster $10
PTA $9
Party Fund $5
School T-shirt’s, planner, spirit sticks $70

$334

I haven’t had to buy clothes, one of them needs bigger trainers, so probably another $50 there

pontiouspilates · 19/08/2019 16:09

DD going into Yr9 and has outgrown lots of stuff. Have spend £155 on uniform and £110 on her new school shoes. Id not added it all up until now. Let's hope she doesn't have a growth spurt anytime soon!

mindutopia · 19/08/2019 16:17

So far only £42 on new school shoes. Don’t need any new uniform as all still fits from last year. Do still need to buy a new school bag because apparently they aren’t allowed to carry rucksacks anymore as they take up too much storage space. So only small bags allowed. Hmm
