Anyone had Corian worktops? Experiences please.

Hi, I love the look of Corian but a couple of people have deterred me from choosing it for our new kitchen.

If you’ve got Corian or had it in the past, how well has it lasted? Does it scratch easily? We will opt for a paper colour if it makes any difference.

Thanks.

I have it and it's got good points and bad. If it does mark it comes off with Pink Stuff or Cif or even just a green scrubby thing. It does mark a lot easier than I had thought it would, but it's really lovely looking when it's clean and perfect. I did manage to chip it on the edge of the sink with just a cup, so not sure how ultra amazing it is because I was shocked at how easily it happened!

We have corian type - it’s a brand name, I think ours was actually made by someone else. I love them - had for 3 years now and no marks or chips at all, and I’m not massively careful! My parents had their corian worktops for over 10 years and they only replaced because my mum went off the colour and was having the kitchen extended so could justify having a new worktop - the worktop itself looked as good as new.

Thank you.

@chocolatiers - a bit concerning that it chipped so easily, given the price!

The cup didn't break either!

The thing that put me off Corian was the heat resistance factor. You always need to faff about with heat pads, trivets....boards etc to place pans on. I suppose it depends how much cooking you do... If you cook a lot I’d suggest granite, which is what we have. No problem taking pans out the ovens and putting straight on the worktops. It’s as tough as old boots(!)

We had silestone worktops put in. Very happy, they look great and two years later no scratches or stains.

We're five years into our Corian kitchen, and it's been amazing. So easy to look after. Big, bright with a sparkly texture, super smooth edges with some wide radius curves to avoid hip damage. Hasn't stained (we make curries fairly regularly) despite being light coloured. Superbly easy to wipe clean - we got it with curved-up splashbacks so there are no gunk-collecting right angles at all. Added 25% to the cost, but totally worth it.

We never previously would put hot pots directly on the surface before as we've always had melamine or wood, so that's no change. We also never cut directly on the surface, always boards, so I've no idea how good it is under that sort of attack.

Mild downsides: The drainage slots are a bit hopeless - they're not angled enough to drain really. The edge around the sink isn't visibly damaged but if you run a thumb around you can feel dings in it. You could get a sink fitted over rather than under the surface to avoid both those things.
