I usually buy from my opticians but this is too pricey at the moment. Does anyone buy online? Where do you recommend?

If you send glasses direct a pair of your old glasses, they calculate the inter pupillary distance

My prescription changes every check up enough to have to change my glasses, so is quite costly. Any glasses I've ever had I have had to have the legs bent quite a bit to fit me properly. Also when they are ordering the new lenses/glasses they take some sort of measurement of my eye with regards to making up the lenses. I'm assuming both of these aren't able to be done utilising the online services?

Thank you @pooopypants I’ll give them a try when I next need new glasses.

I’ve used Glasses Direct for about ten years now, they are great. I even got Ray Ban frames with lenses for a ridiculous price thanks to their 25% off ‘boutique’ frames discount code.

Glasses direct too.

Please be aware that Glasses Direct doesn’t deal with prescriptions stronger than +/- 8.00 diopters. It’s quite tricky getting glasses reglazed with a reasonably strong prescription. The NHS complex lens voucher is a joke.

@NothingWithoutEffort you can ask your optician for the PD it will not change. Or there are apps that will get it for you. I did both and I got the same answer from the App and Optician.

@W33XXX it's easy to adjust the legs on you own glasses just look it up on YouTube. As long as you order a similar sizes to your existing glasses you can easily adjust them. The sites explain the sizes which are on the leg of your glasses.

For anyone needing significant lens thinning (the aspect of my prescription which bumps up the price horribly), I'd recommend Iolla.

They do single vision glasses for £65 and varifocals for £125, regardless of how much they need thinned.

Disclaimer - you do need to go instore to order varifocals and they only have stores in Edinburgh and Glasgow, but they're great for Scottish Mumsnetters!

Glasses Direct. They're perfect no different to the last ones I paid ££££ from at the Opticians and they'll send you a selection of frames to try on at home to help you choose.
