I don’t want Pachelbel’s Canon! Any suggestions?

Had this at my wedding.

I went in to Chanson De Matin by Elgar, signed the register to Salut d'amour, left to the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. We had a string quartet.

I didn’t expect so many replies thank you!

My friend walked in to ‘simple gifts’ played by a string quartet. It’s the tune to ‘Lord of the dance’ and she loves ballet. It was beautiful!

I walked into the Canon - it holds a special place in my heart as being one of my favourite pieces ever to play on the violin. And walked out to 'it must be love' - we had a pianist not an organist and he was fabulous.

ArtichokeAardvark · 12/08/2019 13:47

Walked in to Highland Cathedral and out to Widors Toccata. Played the Dambusters March (DH is ex-RAF Grin) and Gabriel's Oboe during the signing of the register.

hanahsaunt · 12/08/2019 13:47

Walked in to Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring (Bach) combining love of Bach and that this was a statement of faith, with God before everything.

We had Debussy piano during the signing played by SIL.

Walked out to Mozart - and I can't remember which one!

chocolatebrazilnut · 12/08/2019 13:47

We went out to Widor's Toccata. The choir sang "The Lord Bless you and keep you" by Rutter during the signing of the register, and the organist played Vaughan Williams' "Prelude - Rhosymdre" after they'd finished the anthem.

I love "Simple Gifts" Sipper - wish I'd thought of that!

We had Karl Jenkins' Benedictus from The Armed Man. I had a very small wedding in a candlelit chapel and friends played it for us on piano and cello. Absolutely gorgeous, everybody cried. I still cry every time I hear it (like right now!).

Walked in to Led Zeppelin 'Thank you'
Registry signing to Chopin's 'Raindrop Sonata'
Walked out to 'Bring me Sunshine' (Brenda Lee version)

bathorshower · 12/08/2019 13:59

I came in to the Overture from Handel's firework music - the Adagio section.
We went out to Purcell's trumpet tune - both played live on the organ (we couldn't quite run to a symphony orchestra!); it's even better if you can find a trumpeter alongside the organ.
Signing of the register: slow movement from Beethoven's Pathetique - on a piano, would have been interesting on an organ!

I really wanted to have live music; obviously that limited our options, though a lot has been arranged for organ.

Hope you find something you like!

I came in to the Hornpipe in D from Handel’s Water Music - suggested by my lovely organist friend when my father drew the line at the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba 😀

scaryteacher · 12/08/2019 14:17

Hornpipe form Handel's Water Music to go in (was marrying a Naval Officer), and Widor to come out.

I made them all wait at the back of the church before going out through the arch of swords, so I could hear the end of the Widor.

I had the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba too. During the signing of the register we had Mendelssohn's Hebrides Suite.

If you want something different, Lully's March for the Turkish Ceremony is fab! Short (2mins 41sec), rhythmic and builds to a crescendo.

We had Clair de Lune by Debussy when I walked in. It's the most achingly beautiful piece of music.

We had a lot of other pieces by Debussy as well as Eric Satie and Einaudi but I can't for the life of me remember what we walked out to... possible Deux Arabesques by Debussy?

TemporaryPermanent · 12/08/2019 14:44

2 weddings, both register office.

Walked in to Schubert piano sonata 894, first movement. Gorgeous contemplative piece.

For the other i walked out to prokofiev, the wedding music from lieutenant kije.

FaithHowellsYellowCoat · 12/08/2019 17:55

Oo, sage, I walked in to The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba and exited to Widor’s Toccata. Toccata is joyous!

Me too! We had Sheep May Safely Graze during the signing of the register.

Widor’s Toccata always put a huge smile on our faces nearly 30 years on.....

ChelseaCat · 12/08/2019 18:02

We had Handel’s La Rejouissance for our recessional with Organ and Clarinet - it was beautiful and joyous!

ThePug · 12/08/2019 19:41

I walked in to Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana - it’s beautiful and DH loved that its in The Godfather soundtrack HmmGrin

My BiL was playing the piano for us and did lots of Einaudi and Phamie Gow during the signing of register and mingling to start with which is nice background music
