Two (extra long) single mattresses on super king bed?

Thinking of buying an Ikea super king bed and two extra long single mattresses, to stop the fidgeting by me/DP waking each other up. Is this a good or terrible idea? Any potential pitfalls we need to manage?

Thanks!

I would get the mattresses that zip together, so that the mattresses don't move apart under the sheet and create a gap.

Without the zip link will the mattresses separating be a problem? I've got my heart set on Ikea mattresses, mainly because I hate choosing a mattress and I know I like them 😫

We have this and I make them up as 2 singles.
The base is a super king with 2 single mattresses and so gke sheets on them a d single duvets

we have that and it's not an issue.
we have a (thin) mattress cover and the gap is hardly noticable.
whilst you are at it get separate duvets as well!

Why not just get a super king mattress?

Why not just get a super king mattress?

Because eventually they sink in the middle, and you can feel the other person moving about and fidgeting Angry

This is pretty much the standard set up in Europe.

Two single mattresses (and usually duvets) on a joined base.

It my perfect scenario!

MountainDweller · 11/08/2019 15:57

We have this set up - European bed as mentioned by PP. The base has a frame and the mattresses are set partly into the frame so they don't budge. We make it with two single sheets. Downside is it's a bugger to make up because we have to wrestle the mattresses out of the frame!

orangeshoebox · 11/08/2019 15:59

we could have got a huge mattress for our huge base, but apart from the sagging in the middle issue that op describes, carrying that beast up to the bedroom would have been difficult.
plus dh and I like a different firmness to sleep on.

I wish I'd got two singles and not a super king mattress. Ours hasn't sagged in the middle but on the side DP sleeps on. A mattress topper will probably keep them together without the zip things, you could also try some rug grip fabric under the mattresses to further prevent movement, we have this as our mattress otherwise slides all over the place.

Great thanks all!

We've got an Ikea super king bed with a Leesa mattress. It's amazing! We no longer notice when the other person moves at all! It took a bit of getting used to, there's no 'bounce' so when you sit in it you don't bounce up.
