Uses for Tesco paper bags

SamBeckett · 11/08/2019 11:54

I shop on line at Tescos, when the delivers comes all the fruit and veg is a paper bag ( a good thing obs) but I am getting a large collection of these paper bags and was wondering if anybody had any ideas of good uses for them.
I use a rucksack for work so no good for carrying stuff to there.
No DCs,

I do not have garden to compost them in .
Do you think charity shops might be able to make use of them ?
Or should I just throw them away with my general paper recycling.

Just recycle them

caranx · 11/08/2019 12:00

I put my fruit/veg peelings into them to take up to my compost heap. I love them as you can just throw the bag and contents in the compost without having to clean out a plastic tub. I never have enough!

But that's no use for you. Any friends or family who do have a garden/compost??

Fine to paper recycle otherwise.

I could do but somehow it seems wasteful , the kid in me would like to decorate them and use them for my lunch bag !

Google repurpose or upcyle paper bags

Example here

I do have a council food recycling bin, the council provide bags for the kitchen caddy , I wonder if I could use the paper bags in there instead . >>> goes to hunt on council web site >>>

AFAK none of my neighbours have a compost heap ( back to back terrace with postage stamp size back yards )

They're not doing them after this month anyway. Literally only using the red meat bags. In my area anyway 🤔

Winterfellismyhome · 11/08/2019 12:10

Same here @Jojobythesea no bags at all

thefemaleJoshLyman · 11/08/2019 12:19

My DS used one to make a box kite yesterday!

SamBeckett · 11/08/2019 12:24

@Belgravian
thanks for the link , I am not so sure about the flowers / lamp decorations I think I would see them a dust collectors.

But the carpet on my stairs is shot to bits ( to be fair its 15 years old ! ) and I have been thinking about replacing it for about a year but the lack of funds has stopped me .
Does anyone know of the UK equivalent of the glues that can be used ? the US ones are;
Gallon Elmer’s glue (bought at AC Moore with a 40% off coupon and barely made a dent in it)
Gallon Water Based Floor Grade Polyurethane (about $40)

@jojobythesea ,
I did not know that , I have seen something on the website about no more bags but TBH I thought it just meant plastic carrier bags .
How on earth are the pickers/deliver staff meant to keep all your stuff together ?

SamBeckett · 11/08/2019 12:32

@thefemaleJoshLyman ,
thats a great idea for DCs , the weather yesterday would of been great for kites , I bet they had loads of fun .

Yep. From August nineteenth 👍

On the reverse it talks about the drivers happily packing away all your stuff in your kitchen if you want. Trouble is I have purely had bags just to speed up the process so they can get off to the next delivery quicker. I'd feel too guilty then asking them to bring it in and carting it all in individually from the doorstep takes ages 🙄😂

Ellmau · 11/08/2019 12:54

Scrap paper for making notes on, then recycle.

Use to wrap presents.

Offer to work colleagues with DCs for papier mache.

SamBeckett · 11/08/2019 14:10

@Jojobythesea I certainly understand not using plastic bags but the paper ones can be reused , I take them back to the shop if I am not shopping on line ( rare tho as I do not drive ) and as PP have said there are other users for them . Am I been cynical to think they are doing this more to cut cost than help the enviro ?

I get my delivery driver to dump them all on the dinning table which is just inside the front door , but I feel sorry fro the drivers that have to deliver to flats.

@Ellmau Scrap for notes is a good idea , thanks.

@Thebook I only have one pre school near me and last year I asked them if they could use some old ( but in decent condition ) uniform t-shirts as aprons for when the kids are painting etc , I was told in exact words
" this is not a dumping ground for your cast offs " Shock so I doubt they would want my cast off paper bags.

I use packaging to throw other stuff away. I had a oven chips bag last week and used it for all my other cooking rubbish rather than having to throw additional plastic bag away for example

Meckity1 · 11/08/2019 18:20

I think Elmer's glue is PVA glue

SamBeckett · 11/08/2019 20:54

@SOCKS , I do that too, I also use the meat bags as bin liners.

@Meckity1 , Thanks I will look into that more .

I am a bit concerned that it will make the stairs slippy ( I have only ever had carpeted stairs before )
