What the F....(rodent alert)

I have had mice and bought some small traps which was successful with one of them.
I cam down one morning to find the small trap on the other side of kitchen. Neighbour then said her son had seen a rat.
I then bought rat traps and place two. One in hallway and one in kitchen.
I came downstairs this morning to see small mouse trap in the same place as large catcher@!!!! What sort of intelligent beast is this.
I thought what the fuck.
I then moved some bags and found the rat in the trap. I went to put it in the bin but it’s still alive!!!! It’s still wriggling now. I can’t kill it myself.
How the hell did the rodent move the small trap near the same place I put the large trap and then move himself.
I’ve covered it with a large towel. It gave out some piercing yelps but the fuckers still moving.
Any suggestions.

You do know you can call in pest control to sort the issue out properly. Where I live the council charge just £10 to send the rat man round and as well as putting down poison they'll give you advice on the problem and try and work out where the nest is.

Medievalist · 11/08/2019 06:38

Could you leave it covered and hit it with a brick or something?

I did do this once with an almost dead pigeon that a cat had caught. Just to put it out of its misery.

Mileysmiley · 11/08/2019 06:38

Hit it with a large shovel

Medievalist · 11/08/2019 06:39

Not all councils provide this service - mine doesn't.

I didn't say all councils did. But it's worth checking because it's cheaper than paying privately for pest control. If your council doesn't pay for it then you can contact a local pest control company yourself rather than messing around with the wrong traps and ending up with an animal in a trap you don't know how to dispose of.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 11/08/2019 07:41

No one from the council is coming out on a Sunday regardless.

Anyone you know not scared of rats who could come and kill or pick the thing up and dispose of it ? (Fuck knows where)

R44Me · 11/08/2019 07:57

Drop in bucket of water (whilst looking the other way!)

TheGodmother · 11/08/2019 13:12

You cannot drown a rat!!!! It's inhumane and illegal and you can get taken to court and fined a lot of money.

I hate the fuckers, so when I had some I got exterminators in, rather than break the law.

Would you drown a kitten?

wowfudge · 11/08/2019 13:15

It's hardly the same as drowning a kitten: it's an injured rat in a trap. Please put it out of its misery and get a pest controller round.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 11/08/2019 14:44

Who’s taking the OP to court for rat killing?

DeadCucumber · 12/08/2019 07:11

Of course it's the same as drowning any animal, it's still an animal. I hope you put it out of its misery poor thing. Use proper pest control, they'll be far more effective than those traps.

R44Me · 12/08/2019 07:24

What is proper pest control?
Ime the poisons don't kill instantly. Animals come back for more tempting bait so they are killed over time.
Maybe drowning IS more humane.

AngelasAshes · 12/08/2019 07:34

A cleaver and a swift chop to the neck will put it out of its misery.
Pest control is one option, but unless your neighbours also do it, they will come back.
A cat is the best option imho. They kill and deter rodents most effectively at very low cost.
