Registered keeper/ finance and car access

Obviously fake names apply because person a/b would be too confusing.

Emily was living with John, as partners. John's mum is paying finance for a car that both use, Emily is the registered keeper as mil signed it over to her. Emily and John have split up, with John having been arrested and bailed for domestic violence. Emily is living elsewhere, scared, but with police help.

John's mum has taken the car back, as police say she had legal ownership as paying the finance. She is gong to give it to john. Emily has cancelled the insurance, as John is high on drugs, and will use it for drug related activity, so is hoping he will get pulled over and arrested before he can harm anyone.

The problem is that john never gave Emily the log book, so there is no way of unregistering herself as the keeper. She thinks this weekend it is going to kick off, and is fearful for her safety, and thinks the likelihood of john causing an accident etc. Is high.

If anything happens, the fallback will be on her as the registered keeper, but she can't de-register by tomorrow, when all hell is going to break loose one way or the other.

Is there anything she can do to prevent comeback on her regarding the car?

Even though this is minor in the scheme of things, it is what she is focussing on, maybe as a way to keep her brain focused on something.

I'm not Emily by the way.

How this makes sense, and thank you.

Log booms get lost all the time so Emily just needs to contact the DVLA to sort out how to get her name taken off documentation.

If John is driving the car and is picked up by the police for illegal activity it is his responsibility. If he gets stopped for speeding the police can see it is him driving, if he gets done for drug dealing it is obviously him in the car, if he gets done for no insurance it is John who was using the car uninsured so he gets done for it. Emily is not responsible for his actions, people use other people's cars all the time and it is generally the drivers who are held accountable for their actions, not the registered keepers. If the registered keepers got blamed for everything then there would be a lot fewer teenagers being allowed to borrow their parents cars when they pass their tests.

Im a registered keeper of a car because it had some work done under warranty and the warranty is lost if Im not the owner.

However my son uses it and it lives with him. Its his responsibility to insure it properly. In fact, bearing in mind the insurance is a lot more for him than me and hes the main driver, the insurance company expect him to insure it.

I believe as the keeper I will get fines for speeding, dartford tunnel etc in the first instance. I also road tax it - i dont know if its my responsibility too, but I do.
