What's the Scottish word for grassing/snitching?

I was at my Scottish friend's earlier and she was talking about someone 'cliping' and being a 'wee clipe' Confused I have never heard this word before; she explained it means telling tales!

I'm not even sure I heard the word right (wine had been taken at this point) or if it's spelled that way?

Yes you're right, its being a clipe or cliping Grin

HirplesWithHaggis · 10/08/2019 23:46

I'd spell it "clype". :)

Terrysyogurt · 10/08/2019 23:47

Brilliant word!

WeeLors · 10/08/2019 23:47

Yep, I just came on to say cliping or calling someone a wee clipe.

Ah thanks Hirples, no wonder I couldn't find anything on Google 😅 She does come up with some weird and wonderful words Shock

Nonstopbuttmachine · 10/08/2019 23:55

I'm going to use clipe next week at work Grin

I would have spelled it clype but I don't know why.

TaighNamGastaOrt · 11/08/2019 00:06

Its clype! Or I always thought it was spelt like that!

MargotLovedTom1 · 11/08/2019 00:06

In Stuart McBride's novels (set in Aberdeen) it's definitely clype.

ZazieTheCat · 11/08/2019 00:10

Clype. As in “naebody likes a clype”.

Likethebattle · 11/08/2019 00:35

Clipe or clipin!

Yep, we used clype too ...

We used scoffing or skiving for missing school ... eg ‘she was scoffing yesterday’ ... not sure where that came from , have never heard it since !
