Efficiency of chicken pox vaccine after exposure

Hello! I’ve been considering getting DS vaccinated for Chicken Pox for a while but haven’t yet. He was exposed to it quite significantly today (not our fault!). We go overseas on holiday in two and a half weeks time so obviously not brilliant timing. I see that research indicates that getting the vaccine within 3 - 5 days of exposure can significantly reduce the risk of getting it. Does anyone have any experience of this? Thanks!

Yes I do.
Dd (13) got very severe chicken pox three weeks before we were about to go on holiday. We vaccinated our three other children and none of them got it.

Ah, thanks! That’s really reassuring. I’ve booked DS in for it tomorrow morning. Poor thing injured his hand on Saturday and needed an X-ray. A (admittedly very sweet) kid in the waiting room was handing him sweets and toys before his parents told us they were in with suspected chicken pox 😬

How much does it cost? I am not immune to chicken pox as an adult and I have heard it’s pretty awful to get it when you are older x

When my middle child got the pox me and youngest child got vaccinated. My eldest who didnt get the vaccine got it, the youngest didn't but I did. Though it was a much milder case.
