Are you a scuffer?

It's holiday season and the sun is shining. Excellent, let's all chill.

Or not.

Is it just me that is plagued by entire families of scuffers - dragging their sodding flip-flops along the ground in some sort of competition to see who can do it the loudest?

Just. Stop. It.

I'm with you OP. Sounds like walking zombies in flip flops.
Pick your feet up.

hughwhatascorcher · 10/08/2019 17:10

Walking zombies has made me laugh a lot Grin

We aren't in the UK and unfortunately flip flops seem to be an obligatory part of the holiday clothing wardrobe here.

I never fantasise about having a handy bag of sharp tacks about my person

Don't get me started on croc flops! That noise when they hit the soul of the foot!

SirJamesTalbot · 10/08/2019 17:44

Normally, I'm fairly tolerant of noise. But pick-your-feet-up when you walk. I hate scuffers. It makes me wonder if their shoes fit properly Grin.

TokyoSushi · 10/08/2019 17:56

I am on holiday at the moment so this is particularly appropriate as I am in the company of lots of people in flop flops who are really giving me the rage!

What the actual fuck is wrong with people? Dragging them along, falling over them, walking and they fall off, looking all uncomfortable in them. How have these people made it into adulthood without being able to master flip flops, it's not bloody rocket science?!

I on the other hand, wear mainly flip flops from March - October so am an actual pro and in a good position to judge, people need to get a bloody grip!! ARGH!!!!

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 10/08/2019 18:00

Scuffer has made me laugh. It means scruffy person where I'm from so was expecting a thread about hygiene!

hughwhatascorcher · 10/08/2019 18:27

Well their feet are normally pretty filthy @ChihuahuaMummy1 Grin
I am from dahhhn sarrrf originally and my instinct was to type scummer - waves to all the Southampton MNers.

I'll fess up now and say that I live in my crocs pretty much all year round - I know that crocs are loathed and despised on MN - but I promise that I don't scuff or slap.

I came on to expect a thread about bread. Need to get to spec savers. Anyone from my neck of the woods will understand.

As you were...

elQuintoConyo · 10/08/2019 18:34

I live in mine from may-october. DS has nicknamed them Flipetty and Flopetty Grin

But I never scuff them, I can walk properly.

hughwhatascorcher · 11/08/2019 10:30

@ElQuintoConyo Perhaps you could offer classes Grin

TreacherousPissFlap · 11/08/2019 12:04

I'm totally with you OP
DH does the same in his slippers, a sort of schlep, schlep, schlep noise, which often makes me fantasise about breaking his ankles.
DS has just arrived home after a four week trip away. First thing he did was shower and change, putting on his favourite slippers and yes, you've guessed it Angry

hughwhatascorcher · 11/08/2019 12:57

Well I would be lying if I said that I hadn't let the odd scuff escape when I have my slippers on, but in my defence I then spend the next 30 minutes prancing around like some sort of demented dressage horse to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I think you have to master the knack of sort of ‘gripping’ with your toes from a young age. DH had never been abroad till he met me and I suggested he get sliders for the beach. After an hour of shuffling and them falling off he chucked them to wear his trainers for the rest of the week. When I said ‘grip them slightly’ he looked at me like I was speaking a new language. I am fine walking in flip flops etc.

Likethebattle · 11/08/2019 13:36

I got used to the knack as a youngster in slide on Dr Scholl clog sandals.

Knowivedonewrong · 11/08/2019 14:03

My mum used to tell us not to "scuff our feet" in whatever shoes we were wearing!

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 11/08/2019 15:01

Oh god, this drives me mad! We have an office scuffer and I’m soooo close to shouting “pick your feet up, woman!”
It seems to be more common in some cultures. When I lived in Hong Kong, scuffing was a way of life.

NoSauce · 11/08/2019 15:22

This drives me mad. Not just flip flops either! Pick your sodding feet up!

MrsGrindah · 11/08/2019 15:29

But walking properly in flip flops is just as bad...slap! Slap! Slap, Slap!

hughwhatascorcher · 11/08/2019 16:20

Ah yes - the slap, slap, slap is almost as bad.

It is the absolute opposite end of the scale from scuffing so instead of signalling "I am far too lazy to even be bothered to pick my feet up to get from A to B" it screams "look how busy and important I am, even in my holiday flip-flops". Not sure it counts as walking properly Grin
