Does anyone know what the hell is wrong with my cordless Dyson?

It's a v8 I think. It doesn't run properly. Just stop, start, stop, start.

If you remove the filter it keeps going. So I bought new filters but it's the same.

Does it even if not connected to the stick bit so it's nothing to do with the stick or head. I have cut out all the hairs wrapped round the brushes as first idea anyway. It's fully charged.

Been like it for weeks and I really need to vacuum.

Have you washed the filters?

VivaLeBeaver · 10/08/2019 13:37

Got a brand new filter.

I had this same problem and had to send it back. The battery went as well in the end so they replaced it but lots of people I know have this same issue. Even cleaning the filter only worked for a day and then back to square one! If you've got the receipt try taking it back.

Right hubby has found a flow chart of problem solving on the dyson website. Looks like the bin valve is stuck and we need a new part.

I really would not recommend Dysons at all. Seem to be cheap, plastic tat.

Right, hubby has poked the bin flap with a tent peg and fixed it. So we're sorted. There was a load of fluff jamming it up.

I seem to have to take the head apart and the brushes out a couple of times a month to unwrap and uncut hair out of it. I got the animal version and don't even have any hairy pets!

Have you called? They send thepart in the post quickly.
I agree though Dyson are just flimsy plastic tat now.

TheQueef · 10/08/2019 13:42

I irc a two year guarantee comes with Dyson and you need serial number.

VivaLeBeaver · 10/08/2019 13:46

I think it's more than 2 years old but we don't need the new part even though the website said we did. It just needed poking to unstick it and get the fluff out.

Have you still got guarantee - we had an issue with ours but Dyson were very good with sorting it out.

VivaLeBeaver · 10/08/2019 13:46

So even their trouble shooting website doesn't get it right and tried to get me to spend £19 on a part I didn't need.

OP I have exactly the same problem with my Dyson V8. I had to send the 1st one back as it stopped working completely. I had that 1st one 7 months. Same for this one. Only me and DD. No pets. I regularly empty it. I did earmark today for having a poke about with a skewer to make sure all the fluff etc was out. So I will do that as soon as I've caught up with Celebs go Dating

ExpletiveDelighted · 10/08/2019 13:51

Ours does this occasionally but it's always been a bit of fluff blocking it somewhere, I think its good that it cuts out rather than have the motor burn out. I use a crochet hook to get stuck bits of fluff out.

Tonnerre · 10/08/2019 13:59

What's wrong with it is that it's a Dyson. We had a similar problem with one and swore an almighty oath that we'd never buy one again. It's utterly ridiculous that you have to keep taking it apart to take little bits of fluff out.

VivaLeBeaver · 10/08/2019 14:00

Yes I guess cutting out rather than burning the motor seems better. But it would be even better if it didn't get jammed up with fluff so much. Seeing as vacuums are designed to suck fluff up they should be designed to not jam up.

My previous dyson didn't do this and my sebo doesn't.

It's a shame because when it works I love it.

What's wrong with it is that it's a Dyson.

That's pretty much word for word what dh said! Grin

The idea is brilliant and the demand is high enough.
I just want it to work properly.
