Really trying hard to manage my pre diabetes but cutting out carbs and sugar and eating more protein and dairy. But no matter what I eat I go to bed every night feeling hungry and struggle to sleep as I'm so hungry. Its horrible. Every morning I've been having an omelette as this is the only thing that fills me up. We are on holiday now and whilst we had tea we haven't been properly shopping yet and theres nothing I can eat and I'm so hungry I wont sleep. :(

Sorry the question, what should I do about this long term? Struggling to sleep due to hunger pains is miserable.

Load up on vegetables and you can eat complex carbs - you need carbs don’t cut them out completely. This is a lifelong change so you need to find something sustainable.

I've been told by my gp to cut out carbs completely.

You need a small protein -based snack before you go to bed - a few nuts, a boiled egg, greek yoghurt, cottage cheese - that sort of thing.

I find full.fat Greek style yoghurt really filling, and cashew nuts. Make sure you have things with plenty of (good) fat as that is what makes you full.

Your GP is talking a load of shit.
You need carbs, diabetic people need carbs.

I've been told by my gp to cut out carbs completely.

I'm sorry, but this is complete nonsense! Does your GP mean that you shouldn't be eating any vegetables, salad or fruit any more? Because they all have carbs!

If you're going to bed hungry, this suggests that you're not eating enough protein and, especially, fat. If you're following a low carb diet then it should be a high fat one - and I know that sounds counter-intuitive, because we've been told for so many years to avoid fat! But seriously, eating fat will not make you fat if you're keeping your carbs low.

So you shouldn't be eating bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, flour and anything with sugar (which also includes things like honey and agave syrup). But you should be making sure that you have plenty of fresh veg and salad, with some fruit - but limit fruit to small amounts of berries.

I was just about to tag BIWI!
There is lots you can have

Breakfast - if you like an omelette then load it up with cheese, ham, mushrooms, spinach...
lunch - salads, have a chicken Caesar one or feta cheese, stick some crispy bacon in it, have mayo on it etc etc
Tea - meat and veg or fish and veg, have butter on your veg, make chilli without the kidney beans, wrap crispy duck in lettuce etc etc
If you're hungry have some full fat total yoghurt, some raspberries and cream, a chunk of cheese, some almonds

Buy Michael Moseleys blood sugar diet book. I've had a few patients completely reverse type 2 diabetes following this.

I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes and probably actual diabetes. I lost three stone by calorie counting and reversed the diabetes. I did still eat carbs but ate less and cut out white rice, pasta and bread. Last blood test was in the normal range.
