Hello fresh

Has anyone tried recipes from hello fresh? I'm considering it for just a couple meals a week to take the pressure off with a newborn but don't want to waste money if it's rubbish.
If anyone has tried it and loved it what meals do you recommend?

I prefer Gousto! Tastier and less calories (if you choose carefully!).

aewwwenxt · 09/08/2019 11:28

Thank you I'll check them out!

Dh has tried Gusto a few times as he is not a confident cook. He found the instruction easy to follow and the meals he made were really nice. It is a bit dear for everyday use but for when you're pushed for time I think it would be worth a try.

I did Gousto and it was great, so easy and convenient

imclaustrophobicdarren · 09/08/2019 11:51

I've done gusto and got bored so we now have hello fresh. We have it 3 times a week and it's great.

rose69 · 09/08/2019 11:53

Lovely food and good value for money. The recipients can sometimes be a bit involved. We stopped due to the huge amount of packaging. Lots of plastic pots for something you could buy a bottle of and have in a cupboard.

Lubyloo · 09/08/2019 12:01

I love Hello Fresh. We only stopped it because it is pricey. If I could afford to I'd use it all the time!

CalamityJune · 09/08/2019 12:15

I just steal the meal ideas from the website and then online order from ASDA to be honest. You could make larger portions to eat over two days and then mix in some ready meals if you really don't fancy cooking.

FreckledLeopard · 09/08/2019 12:17

Hello Fresh is good but does get a bit expensive. And there is too much plastic packaging. We use it occasionally, then when we find recipes we like we then just buy the ingredients ourselves and save money that way.

Yeah, the food is nice, and its handy - but you can keep the recipe cards and remake if there is something that really takes your fancy - but ITS VERY expensive for what it is, of course you are paying for them to put it all together and deliver it, that's not cheap either

imclaustrophobicdarren · 09/08/2019 12:49

Agreed but my god it makes week nights easy!

AuntieDolly · 09/08/2019 13:02

I love Hello Fresh! OK, its not cheap, but I save lots of money by not going to the supermarket and buying stuff which gets thrown away. Its very tasty with good quality ingredients. My work colleagues think I'm on commission as I'm always raving about it.

Lubyloo · 09/08/2019 13:06

@CruellaFeinberg Yes, I know, I don't mean I'd have Hello Fresh meals every day of the week. Smile I'm a competent cook but I loved having three days of the week when I didn't have to meal plan and buy the ingredients. I do still cook a lot of their recipes from the cards I kept.

MsSquiz · 09/08/2019 13:11

We get a hello fresh box most weeks - £30 a week for 6 meals (3 meals for 2)

The recipes are extremely easy to follow and we've never had an issue with food quality or short dates.

The app is really easy to use to select your meals and it's simple to skip a week if you're on holiday or don't fancy the recipes on offer

combatbarbie · 09/08/2019 13:20

We alternate between HF and Gousto, i do prefer Gousto though. I can put a restaurant style meal on the table in 30 mins, I cook with ingredients I wouldn't usually..... We pay about £40-45 for 4 meals which means I only need to buy milk, bread, fruit etc. Its def saved money for us.

GetTheStartyParted · 09/08/2019 13:23

I have a code for £20 off that you're welcome to use.

We use it on occasion, some recipes are delicious but not all. That's clearly down to personal taste. They have all been fresh and easy to follow recipes.

aewwwenxt · 09/08/2019 13:47

Thank you everyone! And thank you for the code! I'll try both and see which I prefer☺️

CraftyGin · 09/08/2019 18:14

We get Gousto every fortnight. 4x4 meals for under £50.

I’m not fazed by cooking, but they force my DDs to cook proper meals.

Theworldcouldbemymollusc · 09/08/2019 18:25

I've not tried gousto but used HF when we were both working full time. It worked for us. We could get the kids to bed - open a bottle of wine and cook/chat together. I had a couple of manky carrots/stuff missing which was very annoying. But the customer service was quite good and you can re-use the recipes. There also wasn't quite enough choice/flexibility for me but you can't have it all!

MadameJosephine · 10/08/2019 20:03

Theworldcouldbemymollusc I’ve tried both and definitely found there was much more choice with gousto compared to hello fresh
