New neighbours . . wind . . . arghh

I have new ndn. For the first time since they moved in the wind has picked up. It has become apparent they have put up windchimes. tinkle clink tinkle clink tinkle clink arghhhhhhhhhh.
The houses and gardens are small and it MUST be obvious to them that they will be heard by the neighbours.
Why would they do this? ?
Can I ask them to take them down or will I tune them out after a while??

You'll probably tune them out after a while Smile

My mother is a big fan of wind chimes. I hate them. We told her they were irritating - she didn’t care. But when neighbours asked she took them down.

I think it’s reasonable to ask. Take a bottle of wine, welcome then to the neighbourhood, and tell them.

They will already know they are annoying to most people.

timeforakinderworld · 08/08/2019 22:15

I thought this was going to be a flatulence problem. Grin Windchimes are probably worse though.

ParmaViolet44 · 08/08/2019 22:34

Me too @timeforakinderworld ! I thought it was going to be some incredible 'farts being heard through the wall' story. Grin

Bunnyhop1502 · 08/08/2019 22:41

Another disappointment customer here expecting a fart story. So childish Grin

Bunnyhop1502 · 08/08/2019 22:41

Disappointed obviously!

cantfindname · 08/08/2019 22:41

I have a lovely ndn.. except that is for her bloody wind chimes. I have the key to her garden gate and sometimes the urge to go and remove them is overwhelming!

IWantMyHatBack · 08/08/2019 22:42

Scissors. Now.

movingontosomethingnew · 08/08/2019 22:49

Glad I'm not the only one that thought this was about farts.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/08/2019 23:16

Oh I thought you meant wind as in you could hear them farting.Blush
I was thinking’ I’d be proud of them, if they were mine.WinkGrin

MyBabyIsNameless · 08/08/2019 23:21

Oh man I thought this was going to be about farts too ... I used to live in a flat and the flat above was a different lay out to mine. Their bathroom was above my bedroom. There toilet was right above my bed so EVERY morning I'd hear them get up, sit down (Presume) and fart..

Damnthatonestaken1 · 08/08/2019 23:27

You will never tune them out Angry voice of bitter experience. Deal with it now! Sad

Mother87 · 08/08/2019 23:29

Surely someone HAS a good ndn fart story???

FishyMcFishyfingersFace · 08/08/2019 23:30

Can you wait until they are in bed and tape them together?

Hopefully after a couple of nights doing this they will remove them and save you having to do something more drastic like cutting the strings. (Which would be an option for me if they carried on more than a few days.)

You could always have a word with them about the noise disturbing you, but if they kept them afterwards they would assume it was you taping them together.

hotsouple · 09/08/2019 00:02

Came her hoping for farts, was disappointed. Will go read some James Joyce letters to satisfy my urge to laugh at farts instead.

Seeingadistance · 09/08/2019 00:07

I also thought this was about farting.

Skittlesandbeer · 09/08/2019 00:37

Wait for a very windy/stormy night, and destroy them with stealth.

Repeat, until they give up replacing them.

They’ll assume weather quirks at their new house are to blame. Feel free to also introduce yourself with wine, and bemoan your own long-perished wind chimes. Tell them it’s a ‘thing’ around your area. Crazy microclimate, unsympathetic building design, etc.

herbsmokedchicken · 09/08/2019 08:33

I used to have wind chimes in my room, by the window and I remember one particularly windy night I was woken up by DM storming into my room, ripping them down and throwing them to the floor, and then storming out again without a word.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 09/08/2019 12:28

lolll @herbsmokedchicken

My Mum has some outside the bedroom window of the room I usually sleep in (not immediately outside, along a bit) but I don't mind them . Mum is detached so nobody to bother with them .

chocolateworshipper · 09/08/2019 22:50

We have a neighbour with wind chimes - thought we'd get used to it, but definitely haven't. It was ok during the hot weather as the sound of our fan drowned them out. It kind of feels like we've left it too late to say something now!
