I do not have any passions. Everyone around me seems to! DH loves buying old furniture and restoring them and then selling keeping them.

DS1 is a board game and number freak. His joy and pleasure is to wacth Countdown, Deal or No Deal and any other tv game show(he is aged 11)

DS2 is deeply fascinated by books, watches, makeup and nailpolish (he is 9)

I am utterley bereft of anything that gives me pleasure. (I like looking at style blogs. I am fascinated by how other cultures feed their children. I love to travel but never get the chance).

I need inspiration!

Stompythedinosaur · 08/08/2019 21:35

My interests are:

The history of Northumberland
Viking crafts
Riddles
Rereading The Lord of the Rings
Puzzle games
Board games
Planning holidays and Christmas
My large number of pets

Surely there must be something you love to do?

JapaneseBirdPainting · 08/08/2019 21:36

Not boring!

I thunk I need to go to an art gallery or cinema more often because it satisfies me deeply when I do.

I realised that i DID list things that give me pleasure. But those things seem small rather than all consuming passions.

I think having small things is fine, and quite normal!

Feduppluckingmychinhairs · 08/08/2019 21:38

I never had a hobby. I tried it all, dance classes, cookery, personal development course etc to find something for ME. One night I thought to myself "I must look to see if I can find Grannys cousins in USA". That was it. Hooked on genealogy and family history since. WARNING Do not attempt this if you are short of patience and expect fast results Grin

JapaneseBirdPainting · 08/08/2019 21:39

I love to cook. Several years ago I went to a cooking course run by a famous restaurant and i loved that.

I do not have the patience to grow my own veg- I am instant gratification girl.

I went back to uni to study for another carerer just because I was bored with myself.

Overall I am mostly bored with myself still...

Knitting/crochet ? I pretty much think about it all day long, and spend extravagant amount of money on feeding my wool stash. It's portable, practical, and there's a whole community of people to connect with. Give it a try, I went to some local classes and YouTube is a gift here!!

bonbonours · 08/08/2019 21:43

I sing in two choirs, both are open to anyone with no audition and lots of people who've never sung before join and love it.
Otherwise I love reading and jigsaw puzzles, and I cycle along the seafront when it's sunny. That's about all I have time for as most of my time is taken up with kids and work.

JapaneseBirdPainting · 08/08/2019 21:45

I could so get into knitting. I started knitting when I gave up drinking a few years back. That I think I could be very involved with- that and quilting.

theatre and live music

my allotment

if I had the money it would be travel. Pre children I did amazing overland trips across various bits of Africa. One day I'll make it back

JapaneseBirdPainting · 08/08/2019 21:46

And i collect sea glass.

I am starting to realise that I have more that is nourishing in my life that I realised.

It's good.

I'm a flitter! I flit through hobbies and never stick to them.

I have started puzzles and growing veg this year. I'm really quite bored with it although I like the end result.

I like learning (currently on summer break from uni). If you also like learning what about short courses, masters, PhD ect? My passion, although I've never thought of it like that before, ifls my job and the course I'm studying. I could talk about it all day.

Or maybe academic writing. It may be hard to get published without being a lecturer ect but you could start with a theoretical study if you can't get anywhere empirically.

Or join in more social gatherings in your local area. Pub quizzes, WI ect.

Or what about volunteering for help the aged (if that's the right name off the top of my head). Ypu could volunteer to pop over someone's house weekly and befriend them.

Podcasts whilst walking may be another one.

Snog · 08/08/2019 21:49

Enduring loves of mine are natural history and art.
I have crazes though then move onto the next thing with boundless enthusiasm...

bookmum08 · 08/08/2019 21:51

I like Lego, reading/collecting comics and books, making simple craft sets.
This was also my hobbies when I was age 11 or so. These interests went away for a bit when 'being a grown up' happened but now they are back and they make me very much who I am.
What did you enjoy when you were 11?

keepingbees · 08/08/2019 21:52

I enjoy drawing, knitting, reading, upcycling furniture. I tend to go through phases of each thing, get a bit bored and move onto the next but then go back to them. I don't think you need a big grand hobby or a huge interest in one thing. Just as good to have little things that make you happy.

timshelthechoice · 08/08/2019 21:52

I started knitting when I gave up drinking a few years back.

I took it up when I quit smoking. It's fab! I like to upcycle furniture, too.

KatyaZamolodchikova · 08/08/2019 21:53

Pole fitness. I do a couple of classes a week.

I have always hated exercise but decided I wanted to give pole fitness a go. No one wanted to come with me so I was a big brave girl and did a six week beginner course by myself. I could barely move the next day! Now I’ve been doing it a year and spend hours thinking about moves, watching videos, checking out insta. I also do yoga which I have loved too but enjoy more because the more yoga I do the better I am at pole! I am stronger and more toned and I love seeing my progress pictures. I’ve made new friends and I never thought I’d feel as body confident as I do now. DH gets fed up of me showing him what new move I achieve and tells me twice a week not to fall on my head!

Ceramique · 08/08/2019 21:54

Pottery, it's a bit of a money pit though.

JapaneseBirdPainting · 08/08/2019 21:54

at 11.... Horses and books. Obsessed.

I can't ride now. I had a very bad riding accident when I was in my early 20s and have never been the same. (I lost my nerve and a bit more). I have never found anything to replace that love. I have honestly never felt the same since- and that was 25 odd years ago.

Figure skating :)

bookmum08 · 08/08/2019 22:02

If you liked books how about re reading the books you used to enjoy? Tracking them down in charity shops/car boot sales if they are out of print. Find out about the authors - were there books they had written that you never read. If they were a children's writer did they write (or go onto write) adult books or a completely different genre?
