Looking for advice on moving to Leicestershire...

My DH has been offered a job in Hinckley so I was looking for advice on where to move to around that area?
We have family in East Leicester so it would be nice to be close to them so maybe somewhere in between?
Google maps shows Enderby as half way?
But there's also Burbage, Barwell, Elmesthorpe, Stoney Stanton, Sapcote, Thurlaston, Narborough etc.
Can anyone tell me what any of those places are like to live in? or which to avoid?
I have a DD who is 2 so we'd be looking for an area with good schools, nice parks and things to do.
I don't drive so it would be nice to be in a little town (not too remote)with shops but also happy to catch the train into Leicester.

I work near to Enderby, just off the M1 junction 21. If your DH wants to commute to Hinckley using the M69, be aware that the approaches to the junction can be chock a block during rush hour times. Depending on the day, it can take as little as 5 mins to reach the junction, to 30 mins or longer.

I live some distance away, so can't comment on what it's like to live there but apparently Enderby is fine. (I commute in every day.)

Not Cadent is it?

You may want to consider DP's commute time. Hinckley is a complete nightmare to get in and out of at peak times on the main routes.

Honestly, at least 20 mins in and 20 mins out, plus there are proposals to build a rail freight depot at j2 of the M69 and that will add to the woes.

Traffic travelling north to Leicester from Hinckley on the M69 can be horrendous for anyone travelling from 4pm onwards as there's typically always an accident or something on the M1 that causes the traffic to back up.

Sapcote is a nice village/town, as is Sharnford but secondary schools are located in Hinckley and surrounding areas, so a school bus trip for the children when it comes to it.

Stoke Golding is lovely as are some areas around Lutterworth and Ullesthorpe. Broughton Astley is lovely. These towns also give the option of using back routes into Hinckley, that will save a lot of stress and time.

Avoid Barwell at all costs.....

Thank you. Is it worth looking at Hinckley if its so difficult to get in and out of? We'd probably only be visiting family by car at weekends or I'd get the train in the week.

Hinckley itself isn't too bad, but Burbage, at least by the locals, is considered more posh! .... there are the good and the bad areas in both. Infant/Juniors are mostly oversubscribed and use tight catchment areas, like most of the U.K.

The town centre isn't the best, though is slowly improving with independents since most of the chains moved out, but Leicester is only 30 mins on the train (run hourly for the most part).

I've lived here for 14 years so if you want an 'outsider who moved here' view, feel free to PM me and I'll happily help!

My DS's were 5 and 7 when I moved here (from London), so schooling's was v v important and I grew up down south so experienced the good and the bad. I've also moved around Hinckley a bit since I've been here so can give a pragmatic view on areas/schools.

Thank you. Does Burbage have any amenities like parks, supermarkets, cafes etc or would I need to go into Hinckley for that?

Plenty of green space in Burbage. No large supermarkets but does have a OneStop, Co-op and other smaller stores for bits and pieces. Cafes yes, pubs yes, Chinese, Indian, chippy.

For both Hinckley and Burbage there's always something going on. Both have a farmers market once a month, Christmas lights switch on, annual carnival, proms in the park, outdoor cinemas (in the summer) etc etc.

Supermarkets in Hinckley are Morrison's, Sainsbury's, Tesco, ASDA, Lidl and Aldi.
