School Uniform - best way to label?

Enigmasaurus · 08/08/2019 10:34

Eldest DC is starting school in September and I’ve just bought all the uniform.

Any advice on the best / most foolproof way to label it all so that we don’t end up with one pair of holey trousers and someone else’s jumper by Christmas? Grin

Stamptastic. I even use them to stamp the inside of shoes.

Also for knitted items with no care label (football socks) sew in is the only way.

Always label in a hidden place too. Thieves remove the visible labels.

I had small rubber stamps made with each child’s name and our phone number and stamped the collars, labels etc with fabric ink.

Each stamp cost about £8 and I still have them.

Stikins work in shoes too, they need replacing every few months when they fade.

My nametags are fantastic. They survive a weekly 60 degree wash (and tumble in the winter) don't fade and don't peel off. My DC love designing their own labels as well.

Their customer service is brilliant too. They once accidentally sent me the wrong labels, I contacted them at about 3pm to advise and they told me to dispose of the wrong ones and they'd do me some new ones for free. I had the new ones the next morning. No quibbles, no questions asked.

For those using stickers - how many do you order? We have to add the class name so I only want ones for this year.

Millie2013 · 09/08/2019 07:09

My name tags lasted for reception and yesr one in DD’s uniform, they stuck so well

reefedsail · 09/08/2019 07:09

It depends how much uniform you get through Blankiefan, and whether you'll be doing pencil case items etc.

I can get through 60 in a year easily, but that's because: DS grows fast, his school require 80,000 items of sports kit and I do all of his extra-curricular kit with them too.

Another vote for easy 2 name.
I use the iron in tags with full name in a different colour to the uniform in a prominent place like neck of jumper. I also sharpie first name and surname initial onto every label I can find!

To be fair we had nothing go missing last year and his 'lost' school jumpers and fleece. were always found on the wrong peg or the foor!

MaybeitsMaybelline · 09/08/2019 07:16

My kids are adults now but I loved iron on tags, after years of sewing in names which left my middle finger sore and bleeding after doing so many.

I agree about the surname and mobile number, for all your DC, I ended up with loads left from DS and none from DD for some reason. I ended up cutting his first name off his labels and she just got a lot of surname only in her clothes.

Unusual surname, so not really a problem.

Stamptastic.

Thanks all

Think I will go with a sticker / sharpie combo and see..
