Seen in mentioned on so many worst holiday threads.

Am taking the DC's on October. Hotel has good reviews but now I am nervous it's going to be awful.

We went last year to Costa Adeje, it was OK, plenty of day trips, hotel pool was good and we found some great restaurants but I was glad to leave and I don't think we'll ever go back. It was recommended by a friend who loves it and has been every year for the last 10 years so it definitely just depends what you like.

@MarriageOfPigaro we had our car broken into and shopping bags stolen at Teresitas on Tuesday! Crime seems to be an issue

quitefranklyivehadenough · 08/08/2019 20:07

@MarriageOfPigaro thanks for the tip. We will go to La Laguna tomorrow afternoon x

@Travis1 that's our plan for this evening. The family next door recommended it too 👍 xx

There are far more places to stay than playa de las America's and costa adeje. We stayed at El medano. Lovely Spanish beach town. Quiet and beautiful.

Kez200 · 08/08/2019 20:14

We far prefer Greece but, Greece isnt open in February or March. We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel and loved that part of it. The island was OK. The caves were really interesting and the mount would have been but was sadly closed due to winds. The weather was really pleasent.

Id go back so long as I had a great hotel.

Wow, that's awful @quitefranklyivehadenough, I guess that's not helping the holiday vibes either! La laguna is quite heavily pedestrianised, one way streets and bliss with a baby but it does make parking a pain. There's a parking place near the market which is so worth going to, although it knocks off at 1pm. Its called la recova. Around from the is a park called parque la Vega, we used to take our kids there to let off steam. Also, if you walk down the main street, called herradores, there is a pub called Casa Oscar which does amazing tapas. If you want something easy and have little kids in tow there's a basic burger and chips place at the top of the road, can't remember the name. Also take a coat, sometimes it's cold up there even when it's boiling everywhere else!

It very much depends on which part of the island you're going to!

TravellingSpoon · 09/08/2019 07:20

We are going to Playa de Las Americas. I think we might look at renting a car, although we now have three excursions booked so may not be worth it. Because of DS Weare all inclusive so won't be going out in the evening so hoping to avoid any drunken shenanigans.

What hotel are you staying at @TravellingSpoon ?

LightDrizzle · 09/08/2019 22:59

Puerto de la Cruz is a lovely base, with relatively easy access to the Anaga peninsula and some pretty inland towns. It has a historic centre and stunning Lido complex.
It is common for cloud to roll in for a period in the afternoon, but there is still plenty of sun.
I haven’t been for years but went several times and would happily return were it not for personal circumstances.

quitefranklyivehadenough · 09/08/2019 23:10

@LightDrizzle the lido complex is great 👍

TravellingSpoon · 10/08/2019 08:01

We are staying at the Parque Cristobel bungalows. It has good trip advisor reviews so I am not too worried about that.

Travelling spoon..
I’d love you to come back to talk about parc Cristobal
I checked them out a few years ago and thought they were awful, drab and tired looking
Hopefully they were refurbed because they looked like they could be made really lovely

I’m here now
Weather about 24 up or down a notch. Nights not too cold
What’s not to like
My favourite trip of the year

Dowser · 11/12/2019 12:26

The Viking ship the ragnarok is good fun. Saw dolphins and wales in October
And the little monkey park just outside Los cris is a good couple of hours out
Sadly the chimps have gone to another zoo
Went there on the morning of our wedding

It’s great to be away from all the ott Christmas malarkey and bitterly cold weather

TravellingSpoon · 11/12/2019 12:27

We loved the bungalows, all had been refurbished so were really nice. We had such a good time we have booked to go back next year in October.

The north is beautiful, as is driving through the pine forests to get to Mount Teide. definitely recommend a trip up the volcano on the cable car - amazing views. Some of the old towns and villages in the north are beautiful.

We had a lovely stay in one of the historic towns. We didn't see another Brit all week.
We did hire a car though to get out and about.

Newschapter · 11/12/2019 13:56

We stay in La Caleta, it's absolutely beautiful there. Not touristy at all and the best Tapas you'll ever find.

It's pretty quiet so we walk to Adeje and Los Cristianos some days.

We have been numerous times and stayed in Adeje before discovering La Caleta and it's beauty. It might not be lovely enough if you have children to entertain is the only thing.

Newschapter · 11/12/2019 13:56

lively enough

NotTheMrMenAgain · 11/12/2019 14:38

We've stayed at a quiet village, it was lovely - did a jeep safari trip up to the mountains and the guide showed us caves where mummies had been discovered and very old carvings in the rocks. You couldn't really make out the carvings at first but he poured some liquid into them and they appeared - patterns to represent the sun god, it was almost magical and one of my favourite ever holiday memories.

Mum2mischiefs · 29/12/2019 17:32

We absolutely loved Tenerife. We have stayed in both Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas and we really enjoyed both. We have three boys - 16, 13 and 11 yo and they all had a great time. We enjoyed some fantastic Spanish, as well as Thai and Italian, food and there was not a full English in sight. The beaches are clean and safe and we walked absolutely miles along the beachfront! I've just booked a break in Costa Adeje for December 2020.

As with any holiday, it's what you make it and while no amount of research can give you a true feel of what it will be like when you get there, you should have enough info to pick somewhere that you think will suit you and yours.

Frouby · 29/12/2019 17:40

Tenerife is fab for a cheap holiday and it's what you make of it. The north is lovely, very European and scenic. The south is more brit oriented but still lovely. There is about 300 meters of the strip in las Americas I wouldn't bother with, but loads either side to see and do. You can go to siam park, lorro park (but we boycott lorro because it doesn't have the best welfare), mount tiede, boat trips etc.

You can spend as much or as little as you like on food. Be as upmarket or kiss me quick hat as you like. But the weather is always lovely and there is always plenty to do. We went for a week the week before Christmas and had a brilliant time. We go every year.
