Help - how the hell do I get rid of a wasp's nest? Allergic guests arriving on Friday :-(

We've tried diatomaceous earth and the little bastards just laughed it off

DH has been stung quite a few times just trying to uncover the nest, and we have guests coming on Friday one of whom is highly allergic Sad

Any ideas on how to get rid of them?

Have you looked at your local council website? They may offer/ recommend pest control services. Or rentokil?

dementedpixie · 07/08/2019 21:29

You can buy wasp nest destroyer sprays/foam

PlatinumBrunette · 07/08/2019 21:29

Call in a professional. Had to do this last week as they were under the roof tiles and coming into DDs room.
He puffed powder into the space and they'd gone within less than 24 hours.

You need to get a professional pest controller in.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/08/2019 21:29

My parents had one and the Council came out to get rid of it. You are unlikely to get them out before Friday though. Rentokil or similar?

ChipsAndKetchup · 07/08/2019 21:32

I'm allergic and recently had a huge nest in my front garden. Terrifying.

I called a pest company and by the end of the day it was sorted. £60.

Greensleeves · 07/08/2019 21:34

Oh god Sad how much is it likely to cost, does anyone know?

My neighbour put hot soapy water on theirs. It was only in a bush though so low down and not hard to reach. This was a few days ago and we haven't seen them to ask how it went but I was outside most of today and didn't notice any wasps!

Runningintothesunset · 07/08/2019 21:39

Where is it?

sackrifice · 07/08/2019 21:40

Is it indoors?

Greensleeves · 07/08/2019 21:41

The nest is in the garden, under a woodpile so it's hard to get to it without getting stuck, DH has partially uncovered it but got stung by angry wasps.

We've just got rid of one. DH bought some powder and puffed it in at night when they were sleepy, then again first thing, when most of them were dead.

dementedpixie · 07/08/2019 21:43

They are more docile at night

tryingtobebetterallthetime · 07/08/2019 21:44

I would advise a professional. We had a huge one under the eaves above our bedroom window. DH got a wasp bomb spray and waited until dusk. He sprayed and got rid of it, but not without numerous stings. They got into his clothes as well and thus into the house. He was all nonchalant about it but it completely freaked me out.

A professional will do a quick and better job and can also spray something so they won't come back to that spot next year. Good luck.

Pest control treatment is in the region of 60 pounds where I am (North east)

Couchpotato3 · 07/08/2019 21:46

Another vote for getting a professional in. If you ring around, you should be able to find someone who will come out the same day.

EugenesAxe · 07/08/2019 21:47

You can get powder that you need to puff in to the entry/exit point of the nest, so they carry in the poison. The rub comes if the entry point is hard to reach or get to. If yours is easy to access, buy some powder and deploy in the evening when they are quieter.

tigger001 · 07/08/2019 21:48

Absolutely not advised but when we were renovating our garden, so we hired a skip, I only nipped out for some bacon one morning and upon my return, my father was striding across our lawn with a wasps nest in his hands (lots of swarming wasps ) and dumped the next in the blooming skip.
My husband is allergic so had to stay indoors until they had dispersed, my father continued to take down the wall surrounding the pond, with a sledgehammer, surrounded still swarms of wasps.

The wasps had disappeared the next day as had the skip 😱😱😱😱

In our old house we just called out "the guy" paid him £50 and he sorted it. Much easier and safer approach.

clary · 07/08/2019 21:48

I got rid of one in our garden using the foam stuff, it was ok but they don't bother me. DH is less keen and was really panicking but it was honestly ok. You do need to be able to get at it tho, which sounds as if it might be difficult. Maybe a pro us best, call and get a quote perhaps?

FawnDrench · 07/08/2019 21:50

I've paid between £60-80 - each time, and had 2 different nests in the eaves removed.

Both times the wasp removal people came out the same day.

Ring round for quotes and hopefully the little buggers will be gone before your guests arrive.

MuseumGardens · 07/08/2019 21:52

Our council uses a contractor and 2-3 years ago it was £52

MuseumGardens · 07/08/2019 21:53

They came very quickly

hodgeheg92 · 07/08/2019 21:58

Paid a pest control man £50 last summer to do 2 nests. It worked in both places initially but when they returned to one spot he came back to repeat the job foc. Found him on a local fb site.

Should add that he came out the same evening both times as it's a fairly quick job and he was very local.

winesolveseverything · 07/08/2019 22:03

We had 2 in our loft last week - my son is allergic and they were entering above his bedroom window. Hubby tried 3 times to get rid with powder and foam- didn't work..

Called around and found somebody who came and did both for £50. He said the stuff he uses is 5 times stronger than shop bought stuff. He came the next day and they were gone within 24 hours.

Cherrymix · 07/08/2019 22:06

Get a professional. Your local council may still do it but if not just google pest control in your area. Found one on Monday, the guy came and did it on Tues. Cost £70.
