Seats double booked on trains

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 07/08/2019 20:18

The last 3 times I have booked seats on a train they have been double booked. The first 2 times we were in the seats. We checked our tickets and we had the right train and the right seats
The last time we had to find different seats
I am shortly going on a longer train journey with DC who has SN and finds journeys hard to manage at the best of times
Booking the tickets it didn't give me an option to book seats so I have booked them separately at the station
I'm now worried that our seats will be double booked. DC wouldn't cope with me collaring a conductor and pointing out SN

Good idea re passenger assist they are normally pretty good. Need to book in advance

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 07/08/2019 20:29

I thought they were there to assist those with mobility issues
DC does not appear disabled and hates attention drawn to them

Passenger assist were always great with my grandad who had dementia. They weren't the center of attention, they just made sure he got on to his seat, then off at the right stop at the other end.

ForalltheSaints · 08/08/2019 08:42

I'm very surprised about the double booking, but agree with the passenger assist suggestion.

No offence OP but what is anyone on MN supposed to do about this? I would take it up with the train company.

LittleG69 · 08/08/2019 12:42

This happened the other day. Someone (A) was in our seats so I asked them (politely) to move. They moved but said someone (B) was in their seats. It turns out that B had changed their booking to an earlier train and when they asked at the station where they should sit they were told to sit in their original seats. This was clearly daft advice as the person in the booking office should've checked (can they?) whether someone had already booked those seats. Or they may have just been CF, who knows.

Double booking has been happening a lot lately. I’d definitely look into the passenger assist and possibly even prep your DC for several scenarios and walk through it with them beforehand.

Ignore the jerk poster.

What a bizarre comment. There wouldn’t be much to talk about if we could only post about th8ngs people could directly influence.

HotChocolateLover · 10/08/2019 19:00

I’m not being a jerk and I resent the name calling. The train company are the people best placed to answer a query like this and this was my first response.

FromageRay · 10/08/2019 19:38

You won't talk with the train company, you know the people that could help, and you won't ask for any assistance when you board. What DO you want OP?

(Sits back and waits to be called an arse)

Witchend · 10/08/2019 20:24

Passenger assist is for anyone who wants to book it (although I suspect if it really takes off then they'll restrict it.)
Tell your ds you've booked it for help with luggage.

I booked it for dd when she had several stops and they were brilliant (and gave her chocolate so she was very happy).
