Has anyone tried these? Do they work? Our supermarket has just started stocking them and I'd like to give it a try but they're quite expensive so I'd be grateful for any feedback.

I wasn't impressed, my whites started to go grubby looking. I've since heard that it might be because I live in a hard water area. Anyway I went back to my normal washing powder and regard it as an expensive mistake.

Ours work absolutely fine (I do supplement with Vanish or Dettol (to avoid washing at 60) when the DC’s paint / spag bol/ vom deems necessary - but only when I’d use it with any kind of detergent etc. anyway.

A friend in a harder water area tried it and had the same experience as Gram, though.

Meant I only supplement with vanish etc. when necessary. I don’t supplement detergent with an eco egg...

I've been using one for a while. It's good on clothes that just need freshening up, or darker stuff that's muddy or whatever. Not so good on light clothes with eg food stains. I wash those with detergent.

Detergent contains stuff that cleans your washing machine too, apparently, so it's worth making sure you use it once in a while (or use washing machine cleaner).

I have been using one for the last 6 months without problem including husbands sweaty T-Shirts. Occasional detergent for stubborn stains. As above EcoEgg company recommend using a washing machine cleaning product from time to time.

Thanks all, our water is very soft so I think I'll give it a go and see how I get on. No small children (though DH can be a messy eater!Smile) so stuff tends not to be too filthy. Worth a try
