Southern Brittany - things to do in the rain!

We're going to southern Brittany next week and it's looking like there's going to be a ton of rain...

Would love some suggestions of things to do and places to go on rainy days if anyone has good insider knowledge!

Another vote for Lorient submarines...and the creperie right next to the museum was amazing (as we watched the rain come down!!) we found Brittany very changeable so the car ended up with both beach stuff and waterproofs!!

@snowballer

I have just seen there is an app for your phone called Brittany Visitor. I’ve not used it but it might be useful!

Our holiday home was in le pouldu

There was a little animal farm at the end of the lane there... what it’ll be like in rain ido t know

I hope you find something decent. It’s very much a sunshine place

There has been a bit of a grim forecast here in Normandy for this week , but it's been nowhere near as bad as forecast. So try to be positive! Smile

I remember trying to get to the vannes aquarium in the rain. The traffic was horrendous, leave early. Tbh the rain will be intermittent and it will be warm I would just go to,the beach

We’ve stayed in or Le Poldhu is that museum for the French impressionist who lived and worked there still there?

MarieG10 · 08/08/2019 17:36

@snowballer. Know it's too late now but that's why if we do France we never go north of the Vendee. The French say to us don't come to the north for the weather, although a lot of the time it can be good but is no different to Devon/Cornwall.

We have had some great weather in Vendee

@snowballer, you will not be disappointed - I've done Pontivy (ish) to Nantes as a day trip, it's doable, small people will sleep in the car. Nantes itself is a lovely old town, but the space around L'isle has been redeveloped and there's lots to do and see. The elephant sprays water from it's trunk on spectators!

It's a lovely part of the world, but the weather isn't as predictable as further south, but it is family friendly - if DC were 15 and 18, it might be more tricky!

This might be a be much with DC as young as yours, but if you are back there in a few years, this is a fabulous evening (if you take blankets!): Son et Lumiere Bon Repos

Any where near Fougères it is absolutely fab. Bring a tonne of rain gear, head out anyway.

snowballer · 08/08/2019 20:54

Oh you're all brilliant, thank you! Almost looking forward to some rainy days to work through this list! The weather seems to be changing every day so who knows what it will be like once we're there

Machine d'iles is amazing. The huge elephant is quite scary. It's all very French. It's on the southern outskirts of Nantes so it might well be a stretch of a journey for you. Brittany is fab. They have huge biscotteties by roads - essentially large road side shops selling biscuits and tourist stuff, worth a trip for an hour. I recommend the round breton cereal bowls with their names on. Ours have lasted daily use.

OP I recommend Celt Aventure just outside Sarzeau for a treetop adventure place. We had a really fun time there this week. They had two treetop trails for our five year old and he loved the treasure hunt as well.
