To ask what you do when you feel 'run down'?

I've been working hard, been eating and drinking far too much, and generally not looking after myself since Christmas.

I'm ready to change it up. I've put weight on, my face is bloated and lines deeper. My hair is limp, I have no energy.

Dont I just sound fabulous?!

I've downloaded fitness pal. 1200 cals of good food a day. Up water intake. Go for a walk daily.

Any other tips? Any magic vitamins etc or things you do when you feel like this.

Thanks in advance.

Ha I read the post and straight away thought ‘wine’ but that’s no good then. I think taking care of yourself on the outside and doing a bit of pampering helps too - get a nice hair mask or treat yourself to a blow dry if you’re not happy with your hair, do your nails, use a nice scrub and moisturiser etc.

Soola · 06/08/2019 19:22

Floradix and longer naps

MrsMozartMkII · 06/08/2019 19:22

Good on you.

Vitamin D.

Hiphopopotamus · 06/08/2019 19:24

Early nights with 8 hours sleep. No sugar always makes me look and feel so much better. I also take a multi a-z vitamins and minerals and an extra b12 supplement on top of that.

bebeboeuf · 06/08/2019 19:25

When I am feeling run down I usually crave fresh fruit, smoothies, and fresh seafood.
So that’s what I eat a lot of.
And I have a bath, and maybe a day off and get dc looked after.

MosquitoInAJamJar · 06/08/2019 19:26

When I've been burning the candle at both ends, I find staying in, comfys and something funny on the tv helps. I'm normally wearing a cold sore patch too, first sign I'm run down and need to take it easier.

Passthecherrycoke · 06/08/2019 19:28

Iron- I agree with floradax or spa tone

Nice multivitamin plenty of fibre, fruit and veg.

As much sleep as possible and exercise- something you like. 10,000 steps a day is a good start

sureitsgrand · 06/08/2019 19:42

I was taking b12 will get back on it. Used to take an effervescent orange energy vitamin type thing that I thought helped too?

Will get hair done, and maybe a facial. Whenever i get some time, just feel its non stop right now

Wildernesstips · 07/08/2019 07:07

But also be a bit kind to yourself. If you're busy anyway don't set yourself up too many changes at once or you'll start to feel bad if they slip.

Take some of your 10000 steps in nature if you can, that's good for the soul.

Lolimax · 07/08/2019 07:09

Try the Keto diet. I've lost lbs and inches but have loads more energy Smile

TemporaryPermanent · 07/08/2019 07:12

Dark green vegetables, eggs and the odd bit of granary bread. When I'm run down I get mouth ulcers and a few days of intensive spinach and kale therapy seem to work wonders!

MoobaaMoobaa · 07/08/2019 07:19

One large Orange and one or two depending on size beetroot in a blender/smoothie maker with a bit of fresh orange juice to thin it out. works wonders.

good Multivitamins + minerals tablets plus cod liver oil tablets or similar oil tablets.

water lots of water.

plenty of sleep and time to yourself.

introduce light exercise, gentle walks ect...

Beechview · 07/08/2019 07:24

Floradix
Lots of water
Lots of fruit and veg and less sugars
Walk every day
Less wasting time on my phone and go to bed early with a book instead.
More sleep.

Teacakeandalatte · 07/08/2019 07:24

A fasting day helps to reset the appetite and get rid of some bloating. Start the night before by having your normal dinner then start your fast drink only herbal teas and water and keep this up till your dinner the following day which should be a light meal of vegetables and some protein, then don't eat any more till the next day when you would eat your normal meals. Take it easy during the day if you are not used to fasting and make sure you stay hydrated. The next day you might think you will be starving but normally your appetite is reduced - the reverse effect of when you have stuffed yourself at Christmas and think you will never eat again but the next day you are wolfing down the leftovers and mince pies like anything.

Beechview · 07/08/2019 07:26

Ah yes. I agree with the fasting day.

Zoflorabore · 07/08/2019 07:28

I use Metatone, it's a tonic that's available from chemists. If actually says it's for when you're feeling run down and tired and helps to restore health. It's a syrup and really does work.

I hate asking for it though as it sounds like methadone, the replacement for heroin Blush

MariaVonBratt · 07/08/2019 07:29

I tend to get run down when I have too much on with work and social stuff. If you have to say no to a few things then so be it. Drinking will also sap your energy.

Drink water, take vitamins, early nights, self care. Have a bath and read a book before bed. Exercise but not too vigorously and eat a healthy diet. And when you figure out how to do all of these things please tell me how!!

silverystream · 07/08/2019 07:34

I felt like this after undergoing chemo.

I started by looking up beginners aerobics on YouTube. Did that for a bit, Then I came across this,

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9L2b2khySLE

Tried the technique out and was amazed I could run for 30 minutes! I always thought I couldn't run, cross country at school made me wheeze. I felt like I'd been given a gift. So now I run everyday day and I got a FitBit so I log exercise and food and make sure I have a calorie deficit. I have lost the excess weight and went from a 14/16 to a 10/12.

All in all I feel much better. Smile

Loopytiles · 07/08/2019 07:36

Sleep, good food including lots of veg, no booze and gentle exercise.

Loopytiles · 07/08/2019 07:37

1200 cals a day is quite low. Fasting etc isn’t for everyone. Eg if you respond to feeling deprived by eating more or bingeing.

NabooThatsWho · 07/08/2019 07:40

Lots of sleep, it’s so restorative.
Drink lots of water (up to 2l a day).
Take time to just sit and do nothing, resting is important, no need to be productive and doing ‘things’ constantly.
Eat lots of veg and good home cooked meals.
If I’m exhausted (I can always tell as I get a cold sore) I don’t push myself to exercise. I rest until I feel a bit better, and then get back to exercise.

TheBigBallOfOil · 07/08/2019 07:40

Cut down on caffeine. I sleep much better since limiting self to two cups of vandal strength coffee per day.
Don’t cut it out altogether though. Migraines will be brutal.

Go to bed earlier and get as much fresh air as possible. I’m also terrible for not eating dinner so make sure I eat dinner too!
