Better to have older child on bottom bunk ?

Ds 1 is 12
Ds 2 is 7

Currently ds1 on top bunk but he’s grown a lot recently i think it’s better to swap? I know it’s a sturdy bed but makes more sense to have the bigger heavier child on lower bed but then he can’t sit up fully 🤔

The room is just too small for 2 separate single beds

The bed is not going to fall down unless it specifies a maximum weight.

I would keep him on top if he wouldn’t be able to sit up properly on the bottom bunk. That’s going to be really uncomfortable for him.

If the bed is good quality then the older child could sleep on the top bunk until adulthood. If it’s not then even sleeping on the bottom bunk won’t avoid the bed breaking.

I’ll have to check the weight limit but he’s only about 7 stone just getting taller every day and I think that was what worried me that it might just collapse !

If ds2 wants to go on the top, I'd swap only because it's fair. My kids saw the top bunk as an exciting thing, so if yours are similar, it means ds2 gets the fun bed for a bit too.

I wouldn't worry about weight limits though, I'm pretty sure adults can sleep on top bunks too - ive slept in lots in hostels and most weren't any more sturdy than normal bedroom furniture.

Seriously he'll be fine on the top bunk

We had this problem recently in a holiday resort cabin&couldnt swap to a different configuration..nitemare,even for 5nights..our DC12-5'7 &sturdy build wouldve likely caved in the upper frame so she had bottom bunk purely for the safety element..long term would be a bit hard tho😯

I had to buy a new 6 foot 6 adult bunk bed for my sons. That took some finding!

They both hit 6 foot at 15.

That sounds like a long term option where was it from ? !
