Planning our family holiday for 2020 this year to give us something to look forward to after forgoing this years holiday due to practical reasons.
Myself, dh, dd who will be 11 and ds who will be 4 but with asd and gdd.
I love the thought of a cruise but just unsure how family friendly especially with young kids they would be?
A big worry is safety after hearing about the poor lo who fell from one and from family and friends who recently returned saying they thought the decking etc looked unsafe and we would have a hard time running after ds.
Alternatively if anyone knows of any amazing holidays with top class kids clubs which would be suitable for ds I would love to hear about them!
My holiday of a lifetime would be sun, sea, excursions and the chance to relax while the kids had a ball. Ds needs lots of time to relax in the pool to decompress and dd needs something with lots to do and somewhere she can make friends.

Check out Saturn palace Antalya beach turkey. Through Jet2holidays. Nice family friendly flight times. Only 20 mins transfer and they have duplex rooms with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Ideal! We've booked for next year

Whats your budget(ish) OP?

I'd do a really decent all inclusive package. Something like TUI sensatori range.

In fact I dream of this at least once a week Grin

Thanks ops, I’ll check turkey out but dh isn’t too keen on there for some reason
Budget could go up to around 5k for somewhere amazing @heyheymckenzie :) we have looked at some ai places like Mexico, Cyprus, Ibiza but it’s finding one with loads to do around it and with an amazing kids club for ds

Look at the First Choice holiday villages they are geared towards families.

Howaboutthisone · 06/08/2019 09:14

A cruise is fantastic in my experience. We've done three and one of those included our DS when he was 18months old. We preferred p and o with regards the family aspect.
We've also just booked a holiday village in Ibiza for next summer as cruises are now sadly outside our price range as we can only go in school holiday time. That said the holiday village is around 5k for 10 nights.

Have a look at neilson or mark Warner for kids clubs that will keep them occupied all day and totally exhaust them!!

margotsdevil · 06/08/2019 09:49

MSC have a lot of families on board and definitely have a kids club - might be worth looking at. The child who was killed so tragically had apparently been dangled out a window by a family member - it wasn't something inherently dangerous in the design of the ship.

A friend is currently on a princess cruise with a 4, 10, 12 and 16 year old and they're all loving it.

SlinkyDogDash · 06/08/2019 13:37

I've taken my kids on cruises, they are brilliant! Depending on where you are in UK you can easily do one where you just drive to the port, for example Southampton, board the ship and off you go! It is so much easier than airports and flying. I'd recommend Princess or P&O, both have great activities for kids and evening shows, food is delicious etc.

Following with interest - we have twins with ASD who are almost 3. I would love to take them on a cruise next year or the year after from Southampton which is nearby. I’ve only been on one cruises which wasn’t child friendly at all (Cunard) but if other cruise lines are more child friendly I would love to do that. Going abroad to a few places without having to fly sounds heavenly right now.

There's a company called autism at sea that runs autism friendly cruises with lots of other providers.

They've also been working with Royal Carribean for 10 years so any royal caribbean cruise will offer a selection of the autism friendly services.

I think you’ll struggle to find a 5* hotel in the summer holidays on you’re budget. How about a villa?

CallMeOnMyCell · 06/08/2019 14:39

Please don’t book the Insotel Cala Mandia, it is horrible.

KenAdams · 06/08/2019 15:27

Finest Playa Mujeres but I'm not sure you'd get it for £5k.

ACoverIsNotTheBook · 06/08/2019 17:12

Wow loads of great suggestions here thank you, the autism cruises sound amazing!
I’m surprised some of you think we couldn’t get a lovely hotel for under 5k Shock I’ve been on loads of amazing holidays including to villas, 5 star all inclusive and the USA and never paid over that! (That’s not meant to be boasty at all, just amazement lol) I understand the cruise will be more of course... we are in NI and usually have to fly via England tho so maybe because we can fly from any airport there?

SinkGirl · 06/08/2019 17:49

The autism cruises do indeed look amazing but all US based from the looks of it - maybe when the boys are older we can fly over for one
