Does it happen often?

I'm not from London but was at Archway tube station today and heard it. Rememberd an ancient MN thread and thought "omg that's the bomb alert".

Left the station promptly and got a bus.

I thought it meant fire? I heard it once after an announcement that there was about to be a fire drill.

Passthecherrycoke · 05/08/2019 19:44

It’s not that common. It does mean fire alert/ drill/ suspected

Sorry posted too soon. I once went from king x to Baker Street to Canary Wharf with it on bloody repeat at each station. Can’t have been that urgent Grin

I thought it meant a cleaning crew was needed! I hear it all the time.

AllFourOfThem · 05/08/2019 19:46

It originally meant fire but does now mean anything suspicious or a serious concern. So yes, with the increased security and checks it will be happen more often but a more immediate concern will result in immediate evacuation and closure of the station.

I work for the tube, it means that a fire alert point has been activated

Nobody seemed to be evacuating but I was out of there in under 30 seconds. Wasn't hanging around to see what happened.

It’s not an alert for the public but for the staff/ British transport police. They wont necessarily evacuate (tbh I have only seen that a few times in 20 years of using the tube)
