Boring I know! Am I right I thinking that if I am renewing a passport (old one expired) I don't need new photos if I havnt changed from the last photo? This is what it says on the form but online has a different answer🤔

I’ve just renewed my passport online and I had no choice but to upload a new photo - there wasn’t an option for keeping my old one.

KitKat1985 · 05/08/2019 18:36

I think you need to upload new ones if a ten year old passport has expired, as it's likely your appearance will have changed a bit.

dementedpixie · 05/08/2019 18:37

You need a new photo for all new passports. You dont need it countersigned if you can be recognised from the old photo. If you do it online you upload a picture as part of the application

dementedpixie · 05/08/2019 18:40

www.gov.uk/renew-adult-passport/renew

If you read this page, you either need a digital photo for online applications or 2 identical photos for paper applications

Spam88 · 05/08/2019 18:46

You definitely need new photos, they just don't need countersigning if you're easily recognisable from the previous ones.

It's cheaper to do online

NemoIsLost · 05/08/2019 19:01

Also our holiday is November, is Brexit likely to cause passport problems depending on what happens on 31st Oct?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 05/08/2019 19:02

Do it online. Cheaper, quicker and easier.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 05/08/2019 19:07

I recently applied for my passport and somewhere in the reams of guidance it says that your photos must be less than a month old.

NemoIsLost · 05/08/2019 19:15

I wouldn't have a clue how to do the photo bit onlineGrin

It's anyone's guess. But it's a good idea to renew soonest.
Probably the issues will be more to do with going through passport control at ports and airports. DH will sail through passport control going into EU countries on his Irish passport while I will be stuck in the non-EU queue.

dementedpixie · 05/08/2019 19:18

It tells you what to do. Either do a selfie against a pale coloured wall - think you need head and top of torso in the picture- or get someone to take a picture of you with the phone. I did 3 online renewals and it was dead easy

UrsulaPandress · 05/08/2019 19:23

So easy to do online.

Scabetty · 05/08/2019 19:27

Ds took my photo - gives instructions on application about how far from wall to stand etc and we uploaded it easily. If I can do it anyone can Grin

MagneticSingularity · 05/08/2019 19:28

I renewed my British passport online very recently, I was impressed by how easy and quick it was. I live in the USA so I was expecting it to take weeks for it to reach me but it took only 12 days from completing the application to receipt of new passport.

iklboo · 05/08/2019 19:29

Agree it's so easy to do online and you can track the progress of your application as well.

NeverTrustASmilingCat · 05/08/2019 19:39

I recently renewed mine online. Got my photos at a photo booth where it gives you the online code to put on your application so they can access your photo.

Maybe I will look online then, thank you

Think the photo is the first stage of the online application

MT2017 · 05/08/2019 22:53

Go to Snappy Snaps. Have pic taken. They give you photos and a code.

Log into passport website. Give code when prompted. See your photo magically appear!

We were very impressed by this. We had to get the 11 year old's pic confirmed by someone else, apparently it's only up to age 11 though, didn't need to with two older teens.

Proseccoagain · 06/08/2019 09:01

I went to Timpsons, does the same as Snappy Snaps. It's magic! Easy to do on line and I got my new passport within a week.
